Luppie,

I have installed openMSX 1.13.0 cfr. your instructions, which seemingly went well.

However, when I start a game, I get a black screen and then go back to the game selection screen again.

Any suggestions?

K.

Maybe you need to put some quotes " in emulators.cfg around the path names.

openmsx="/opt/retropie/emulators/openmsx/bin/openmsx %ROM%"

Not sure, has been more then a year that I wrote that article.

I installed a new memory card with Ubuntu MATE 16.04 and openMSX 1.12.0 (and catapult).
This works, but performance is kinda bad, especially if I scale the display (set scale_factor 3).
I tried using a different window manager (Fluxbox), but that's not really helping.

How does RetroPie do it to get decent performance?
Should I use Raspbian OS maybe?

Any suggestions?
Thank you<

You could try if it supports OpenGL 2. Set the renderer to 'SDLGL-PP' and OpenGL2 will be used for scaling, which means it will happen in hardware. But I don't know if your hardware supports it. Nor if RetroPie supports it. But you can try Smile

Any reason not to use the latest release? (0.13.0)

Well, I just did "apt-get install openmsx" and it installed version 1.12.0 Wink

I will try your OpenGL suggestion

I installed the Raspbian OS with openmsx 0.10.x and everything works very well. MATE must have used too much system resources, or maybe lacks some of the hardware drivers.

I've rewritten my howto "Install OpenMSX on Retropie with XBOX360 or PICADE Controller" and added a config to use a XBOX360 Controller fully configured to use special keys within OpenMSX on my weblog. You can find it here:
