It's been a week since the moved deadline. There's been no updates on the site.

Did any of the judges get any notice whatsoever?

Hi everybody!

Despite all these messages, I just have to explain only a few things:

1-At the moment I have medical problems and I do not have enough time for doing nothing. Just wake up and go to the hospital. Sorry for the consecuences for MSXdev'03.

2-The deadline was extended because one of the CONFIRMED contestants, Ricardo Bittencourt, needed more time to complete his game. There have been almost a year to sign in, isn't that enough for you?

3-The deadline has been extended because I thought that only 2 games wasn't enough. I wanted Ricardo's game to be included.

4-The changes were notified to ALL registered contestants, and also to the spanish mailing list, because they DO SUPPORT MSXdev'03. Look at the prize list: there are only 2 non-spanish donations: Ricardo's one and Hans Otten's prize.

5-My intention wasn't to create problems in the MSX community. I just wanted a MSX competition to develop new games for the MSX1 system, as it was 20 years ago. I think that this system (as the previous messages demonstrate) has been forgotten by the MSX community itself.

6-Juries haven't been noticed because the MSXdev'03 won't be a contest anymore. We will only publish the game, because the lack of participation has made every contestant a winner. Of course, we won't get any prize for participating. Participate is the best reward. And new MSX1 games will benefit all the MSXers around the world. Thank you for all the people that wanted to join, but there were too many juries for only 2 or 3 games. I accept that I should have mailed them.

7-I accept all the criticism, because I know that the organization has been awful. But this was a one-man initiative and I do not have much time. Please do not say that I have favoured non-dutch contestants because all dutch contestants left the competition some months ago due to other problems not related with MSXdev'03. And that hurted me personally a lot. And because of critics I already retranslated the whole site to english.

In conclusion, I can only say that the games will be published in my page some day before Christmas. That includes for sure PENGUIN RACE and GURU LOGIC, and I hope that TETRINET will be also included. There will be also a beta version of TEKI PAKI. If you have some more games that verify the MSXdev'03 criterium, please send them to my mail address and I will of course include them in the MSXdev'03 platform. I am sure that you will enjoy all the games.

Kind regards for everybody and merry Christmas.

Hmm, I did not show myself in this topic so far, but I guess it's time now. First of all I'd like to thank pitpan for replying to these messages in the way he did. And for having the courage to start MSXDEV '03. The idea behind it was nice, and it's a shame it did not work out as expected. I hope you'll get well soon.

Still there are some things I'd like to respond to:

The changes were notified to ALL registered contestants, and also to the spanish mailing list, because they DO SUPPORT MSXdev'03. Look at the prize list: there are only 2 non-spanish donations: Ricardo's one and Hans Otten's prize.Indeed, you have showed previously you were quite disappointed that there weren't more contestants from e.g. the Netherlands. I think there are several explanations for this. First and foremost, a lot of active developers from the Netherlands have got their hands full on their own projects (Bombaman, Guru Logic, Meridian, MBWave/MBFM, CLS, ...). Also, most Dutch developers are not very keen on developing MSX1 games. This does not mean that the MSX developers have forgotten about MSX1 games, but it does mean they are more interested in developing products for MSX2 and higher.

And because of critics I already retranslated the whole site to english.Which was indeed very well received by the non-Spanish visitors like me Wink

In conclusion: it is a shame that the MSXdev'03 did not quite work out as expected, but at least it got us several new MSX1 games.

I fully agree with snout. Too bad it worked out like this, and hope you'll feel better soon.

However, it's entirely unfair and shortsighted to call the international MSX scene unsupportive! MSXdev'03 was promoted on #msxdev during the entire period of the competition. Several visitors of #msxdev seriously considered making an entry, but as snout said, other projects took up all the time and MSX1 programming is unknown to most. I personally even took time away from working on Guru Logic to make a last-minute entry, only to be scolded that I should've started sooner. You insult me with remarks about not being supportive.

GuyveR: there is no problem at all. If you want to finish your MSX1 game we all can wait till you complete it. But before telling that I am insulting you, please read your own messages: they aren't exactly polite.

I won't continue this argue, because is senseless. I just wanted a way to get some more MSX1 games. I failed and the results aren't as expected, but hey, we will soon have some MSX1 games coded in the 21st century, and that's good.

Thank you, Dioniso, for your unconditional support to MSXdev'03 and the minoritary MSX1 community.

Kind regards,

E.R.
