It works identically. It' just not used in that way because MSX always has the AY3.

Even if it does, if it can produce closed and open hi-hat sounds, I'm Elvis Presley. Smile

Of course this have nothing to do with it, but Apples MightyMouse do remaind me to that case.
In lack of a button, it produces it´s own click with a small build in speaker. I´m waiting for cars have build in speakers for motor sounds. Or do they already have?

The Spectrum really only has a 1-bit speaker. The 128k has the AY. That's it.

Also, if you use the speaker to produce music, you don't have much CPU left for anything else, like games.

Because of these limitations, there is a very creative 1-bit music (= beeper) scene. There are engines that can play 8+ channel music on the beeper with all kinds of sound effects. Of course you can't play these music during games, but that's okay.

That means, that the MSX really have much better options in music. In fact, I was told to use the AY (or even newer hardware) to make music for the MSX and not use the internal beeper.

Try:

10 OUT &HAA,&H50:OUT &HAA,&HD0:GOTO 10

For some horribly sounding tone with the key click Smile (because badly timed with Basic). Driven from assembly, it can be a pure square wave tone.

Here, a four channel chord:

clickpsg.com

First three notes are played with the PSG, the fourth notes is played with the key click.
(Note, program does not terminate.)
