The Cartridge-Only philosophising

Actually all the MSX Software Makers release games on Cart, because it's classic and collectors love it.
I think it is right, because they must also get money back for the time they spent.

But they miss 2 things.
1) So many MSX Fans has no more real MSX, use Emulators and Frontends or simply can't fill their house of Carts and prefer to use a FlashCart with a software like SofaRun to manage all their roms.
2) Selling also digital versions of their games means to earn more money. Other way of thinking is very similar to the one Majors made when Itunes arrived (remember something like "Itunes will kill music" ??). Now they earn with it. Moreover, selling a product without the costs of Cart, Booklet, Case, Shipping, Manual etc. is absolutely more productive.

It's since years I try to buy digital versions of last 20years games, but I found only a rubber wall, also after many years from the release of the cart version of the game when they are not selling them no more
After all this time and patience, I'm forced to look for dumped versions of these carts
It's a provocation, but I have no other choise. Remember: if it would be possible, my preferred choise still remains to BUY the digital versions directly from the autors

This is not because FlashCartridge and Sofarun exists, developpers must do digital versions.
For me it's a non-sens. I hate digital games ! On every consoles or systems, I want Boxes, disks, cartridges, CDs, and paper manuel if possible !
I like collecting cartridges and see them on my shelf !
MSX's soul is cartridge ! That's all for me.

But your are free to think different !

And the best way to think differently is to consider that games only available in cartridge (or disk) simply don't exist !

I like cartridges too, even if they take lot of space on my shelves.

Most of the times I'm launching the games on the MFR to save the cartridge ports, but I like to have the real manual and box in hands

BTW, releasing in both cartridge & download is not incompatible. Digital-distributed products are not more pirated compared to real cartridges from what I've seen ?

i agree with you !

best way to support Msx and Msx developpers is to buy their products.
Dump it for your own use if you absolutly want a digital version.

@Louthrax ... i don't think about piracy... but the fact is, a cartridge collection have a value. A rom collection have absolutely no value !

@ eric I agree with you, Carts are MSX Souls
but, as MArs said, we maust all consider that there is another side of the moon.
People must be free to choice. I like the taste of the manula and the boxes, and you prefer Carts. I prefer JukeBox management on BlueMSx or on MFRSCSD, and I prefer DigitalVersion.
@Mars. About games. Someone gave me Sonyc, Lilo, Nuts, Bomb Jack, Zombie incident, Pengo, Caos Begins, Traffic Jam, Perfect Fit,
I got Uridium and Monster Hunter only in a free version that is different from the Cart version.
No other games.

So this is my updated list: please send your dump to nowarez AT please DOT ok

The creator of the game is the one who decides; it is HIS work. No one is allowed to steel it.

MegaFlashROM and Sofarun are there and are great, but it doesn't mean we MUST dump all the legal cartridges to play with them. Guns are there, too, but that's no reason to use them and shoot everyone.

And, yes, giuseve, you have another choice: don't play them (I can't believe you really think you are "forced to look for dumped versions of these carts". Forced!!!). And like that, you respect the idea/goal of the creator: that people buy his cartridge and play them on a real MSX -not that people download the game and play on a MegaflashROM or emulator. If someone wants to release a digital version, I will download it. If someone only wants HIS game on a cartridge I'll buy the cartridge or I won't play it.

People like you contribute to stop coding games; I would like to mention the situation with Kralizec and their Goonies being dumped.

The problem was not the dump of the game but the fact that the original version was protected against using in emulators or MegaflashROMS with this specific ''ironic" detail that it was the same people that had created the MegaflashROM.

Ah, I know I've made a mistake by sharing a trick to bypass the problem in emulators, but the original mistake was not mine (and the PSG/SCC reason is not acceptable : it should have been so simple to indicate that PSG/SCC quality was only guaranteed on real hardware). As Jipe has said, everyone has the right to make a dump for his personal using (not for distributing to friends or on the net). But some people in the MSX community are still denying this right !
