Also re. Booming Boy sales,

Some games I buy, some games I don’t. Other games I still want to buy (e.g. Monster Hunter), but cartridge releases are fairly expensive so I hold off on them in order to not spend too much on the hobby at once. Last year on the Nijmegen fair I spent € 150 on five or six games at the Bitwise stand (catching up a bit for the years I had been inactive with MSX), and I own about half of the games in Repro Factory’s shop (I think I’m quite a good customer of ericb’s Smile), but I can’t buy everything.

Of course, for the games that I don’t have, I do not have a copy either. I’d hope it speaks for itself but maybe it doesn’t for everyone.

Now thinking about my motivation to buy MSX games; to be honest I don’t play much games on MSX anymore, I do play everything I bought but most not for more than an hour or so. So for a large part I buy them for collectors value (cartridges are erotic!) and good feeling about supporting the community Smile. Regarding digital releases, in terms of collectors value they don’t appeal to me much for obvious reasons, but if it’s just a few bucks I might still buy it to support the creator.

Thinking of what would persuade me to buy a game… It helps if the game has some unique quality that makes it a novel experience for me to play. Additionally, some promotion a few months before the release, e.g. releasing a promo video of the work in progress, would help slowly build up interest over a longer period of time. For me, a game being original work is also a big plus. If I am somehow slightly involved by e.g. being involved in technical discussion on the forum, it would also be a reason for me to be more interested. It’s a combination of many factors.

Just a few examples, in the case of Uridium, it was technically interesting and I had witnessed part of the development on this forum, and also the game seemed to be a bit of a classic that I had never experienced. In the case of Arcomage, you don’t see that type of games on MSX often. Same for Deep Dungeon. A few cartridge rereleases of old Matra games are technically impressive and I’ve got good memories about their gameplay, and I like their style. Zombie Incident, it’s a original new game, I love the cute cover, Johnny’s music and that it’s a cross platform game.

(Wait, who was complaining about a decline in games for MSX? Smile)

Booming Boy looks very nice and smooth 60 fps, but I’ve already played Bombaman plenty of times, and Paragon’s old version too, so I feel like I’ve played it enough and it’s not really a game I wish to re-play. But maybe if I see it at the fair I’ll pick it up on a whim, it is an MSX2 title after all and those are pretty rare nowadays, and it does look good.

Actually, i'd like to buy an digital version in the Jan-Feb 2016 as well. My reasona are simpler but stronger than shipping, lack of space to fit carts etc. Yep, if my wife see an mail package with MSX stuff i'll be in little trouble but when i download something she will not notice i suppose Smile It started after i spent a bunch of money and bought few computers and a pack of cartridges so now she only tolerate when i order pcb's and chips and solder something (actually with help of my bro 'cause my soldering skills are not perfect though) for MSX...
So, count me on for digital version too Wink

heh, much faster than I expected. Would you accept payment now instead of 1feb? Paypal ok?

*edit* 4 Pencioner: it is limited to 20 for obvious reasons, but I assume if one of them doesn't keep his word(pledge) it should be ok..

Holy cra...!!
I turn my back for a second, and you already made it to 20??

Meits! what have you done?? LOL!

Ok, I stand corrected.
Hereby, I Oscar Kenneth declare I was wrong regarding the digital version potential market, and therefore I rectify my point of view regarding this matter.

Now I will have to fix the bloddy moonsound bug. Evil

No, really, thank you all for your support and for proving me wrong.

ok, this social experiment is over.
We will accept a few names more just in case some of the ones in the list end up not paying or they just put their names to prove me wrong, and we will close the list.

Since there is no need to wait until February 1st, we will send the rom files and all the related information as soon as all the payments have been completed as well as the english translation is completed, the emulator bug fixed, and some minor graphic changes, so in a copule of weeks or less you can enjoy the game (if no more unexpected issues arise...)

Please contact me for payment details (paypal, bank account) at kennethalbero@hotmail.com

Thank you all, and I hope you keep supporting other developers as well. We all need it.

By the way, I did not even know about booming boy existence until I did read it in this thread. I just wacthed the youtube video at reprofactory and it looks very well made.
As Eric said, spanish market is where more potential buyers you can find at the moment, and I bet the game did not each many spanish users radar. I will post videos and info in the facebook spanish pages I usually post to create awareness.
I want a copy. Is there a digital version available? or should I order it from Eric? 25 euro is not expensive at all.
Good job! You should create more awareness.

If you have played Bombaman, you definetly have NOT played Booming Boy. Gameplay and playbility has nothing to do.
Bombaman is slow, chunky and almost unplayable at all (it even lacks the typical automatic position adjustment at the corners, which is one of the most distinctive features of the Bomberman playability... I don't know who produced it but his knowledge about game design didn't seem very strong).

And about originality... well... both are based on the Bombaman gameplay (which is not strictly true cause BBoy is inspired by Dynablaster which is NOT the same as Bomberman), but BBoy has 100% original stuff.

HAHAHA I can relate.
No problem, count yourself in, I am sure someone of those 20 will not pay.

Well... still have to see how many users of that list will actually buy the game when the time for paying comes.
