I recently got a NMS 8280 from netherlands and I want to know if it is posible to run the spanish "ñ" on it by changing any software or hardware on the computer, because on my NMS8250 (buyed on Spain in the 80) the keyboard works with this symbol.
I have swap the keyboards and the one from the netherlands plug on my spanish MSX2 works fine and have the "Ñ" so it should be something related with software of the computer.

If anyone has an answer please let me know

THANK YOU

You need a Spanish BIOS ROM and then it will work. I think.

Can't be flashed. You need to solder.

now the question is how the bios looks like or the number on the board and if I swap both Bios one from the one from the 8250 (spanish) to the one of the 8280 (english) would everything else like digitalization, memory... still works as a 8280 or by the way the Bios coming from the 8250 won´t work on the 8280
Thank you

IC117, IC118 and IC119 are bios chips. IC118 and IC119 is not erasable (you can not load anything else in this chip), IC117 is UV erasable and reprogrammable. All three are in sockets so you can replace them.

IC119 - 32K (MSX BASIC)
IC118 - 16K (expansion ROM)
IC117 - size is not seen on the pic (most probably - 16K, disk BASIC)

In order to have the desired symbol, you will need to replace IC119 - find abother chip and program appropriate image into it. Well, you may try BIOS chips from 8250, but should ensure that they are of the appropriate (same) size, they are of the same pinout (just ensure looking at datasheets) and you insert them properly. Otherwise you may damage them and make your 8250 non-operational without proper ROM chips.
