Two trivial upgrades for msx 2 are custom palettes and multicolor sprites

Palette agree, for multicolor sprites requires some more work, as putting more sprites (with the same 32 limit) and the color is handled different, and probably some gfx retouch for adaptation.

Interesting, i'm not used to know 9938 , how theses features are compatibles with 9918 mode 2 ?
Btw, i own a MSX 1 and a MSX 2 , what's the best dev cart alternatives (like atarimax or everdrive) to dev on theses machines ?

v9938 support a graphic 2 mode as in tms with the ability to handle multicolor sprites (called sprite mode 2)
so you have the same graphic mode with sligthly different abilities in sprites

Good devices for msx development are flash roms by Manuel Pazos, which, among the other things, support all common mappers for large roms and emulate the Scc audio chip.
But if you like msx/colecovision cross development you may consider the flash rom cartridge by Eric Boez (ERICB59) that includes the SN audio chip

About multicolor sprites the differences may require some code adaptation but nothing you cannot cope with.
The improvements wrt msx1 are 8 sprites per screen line, one colors per sprite line, 3 colors per sprite line if 2 sprites are overlapped per object.

There are two main issues to consider
artworks: sprites could be modified to exploit the fact that you can change colors on each sprite line and use 3 colors per line if two sprites per object are used. But you can also keep shapes as they are with minimal color updates and gain the ability to keep 8 sprites per line without flickering
Sprite multiplexing: due to the fact that the color info are in the SAT you may have to change multiplexing strategy.
The simplest thing is skipping any multiplexing. The second simplest way is to use two SATs, one ordered directly and one in reverse order and swap from one to another frame by frame.

Thanks a lot for your replies, i take a quick look to v9938 programmer guide and found G3 and S2 very interesting.
Thanks pointing me on ERICB59 as he's on gamopath forum too and he's twice a compatriot, i'll get him in touch Wink
