Also, it's like the cursor keys are inverted when walking around with the rebel troopers...

Anyway, great work though! Perhaps you can even include a sc12 image Smile Oh, and you could perhaps put it on a 360kB disk image, so that it works on all MSX 3.5" disk drives.

I quickly tried the game a few weeks ago, but I couldn't really quickly figure out what to do... is there a short manual available?

A "MANUAL.TXT" file is included on the disk, but I agree it's not so short. The original PDF can be found here. That's all I have for now.

Did not notice that bug. Is it specific to a map or team you pick?

Just in case: controls are "Micro Machine" like in Laser Squad (you rotate with [Left]/[Right] and advance / go back with [Up] & [Down]. Be sure your trooper is oriented in the good direction (you can check that in the upper-right part of the screen showing the character and its direction).

Yes, I think it should fit on 360K.

I did not include FRS screen 12 image because I just prefer the screen 8 version. The dithering on it looks super good (and gives a nice "sand-storm" like effect). This was not just a simple automatic conversion, FRS worked a lot on it.

I thought about giving the English translation from the Italian release a try (...) but can anyone tell me a MSX model in OpenMSX that supports this game?

Some MSX(2) model with a memory mapper should work. Cannot have RAM on slot 0/1. On MSX1, you must add a emory mapper for it to work.
When in doubt try emulating turbo-R, it will work for sure.

Looks like they decided to shift the screen to the right for the MSX version (maybe they had badly centered CRTs ??), but did not notice things were overlapping to the right.

Exactly what did you change? Would like to fix this on my release as well Smile

There are some data arrays in the game that contain screen coordinates and string#, you just have to decrease them by 1. I'll publish the full sources with the patching code when I'll release the final version.

Wondering if the "code base" of your version (Italian one right?) and mine are the same?

Awesome work Louthrax (+ FRS)! Love the lovin' you are giving this, quality stuff! The MSX (gaming) scene is treated well (again) recently (pointing at Castlevania patch) Smile

Still have to give it a proper go though. Back in the day I did miss out on UFO: Enemy Unknown, which is also still 'waiting' for me to give it a go (by means of OpenXcom I reckon) Smile

Anyhow, cool this game was released for MSX, and now is getting this excellent overhaul, props!
(+ props to SLotman for his version as well btw.. Wink)

I want to say again I appreciate this! I didn't even know the MSX version existed - before I found FRS's version - and now this.

The MSX version is even superior to the DOS version in some regards: auto shot is improved (you can "spray" with the gun between two points) and the famous exploit of shooting just one square away is missing (in DOS version you can hit everything with 100% accuracy if the enemy is in any of the 45° direction). Also you can backpedal (with an added cost of course) - which can come in handy in some situations!

There are several Spectrum gameplay videos (and others, but that is almost identical to the MSX version) which should give an idea of what to do. Some tips: don't buy the best armor or everyone (you need some money left for weapons), and generally don't waste money on clips, at least if playing against computer. Usually you'll only need the one that already comes with any weapon (nice, they include batteries at the factory), save maybe for shotgun - and even then there's usually loot lying around.

Louthrax: Do you think it would be easy to convert the levels downloadable here to the MSX version?

Sorry to dig up an old post, but does anyone still have the wavs for this game? The host links on here seem to be long dead. Thanks
