I guess not only the MSX used Frequency Shift Keying... This new signal looks a lot more like MSX than the other though.

I hope someone can take a closer look! I still can't load it as a save game into MG1.

Hmmm. tapdir says it's a tokenized basic file with the name "VOL2__"....

Indeed, I can load it a bit with CLOAD, it says Found: "VOL2". But nothing really gets loaded.

Exciting!

@Brotigan

Are you running MGS5 on a PS3 or PS4? Because on PS4 probably it would be better to export a video for the gameplay, then cut the audio exclusively for the part that plays the MSX cassete sound.

Tokenized BASIC even, wow! Would have suspected it to be an ASCII string just for laughs.

@sd_snatcher

I used iPad companion app that can play tapes from game and connected it with my PC via audio cord.

Now this is getting interesting! I could also reproduce the "Found:VOL2" message...
Could you try to record yet few more times?

Maybe different volume settings or something... We are getting close (and yes, this is definitely MSX program)

Can you explain how to get this VOL2 message?

Here's what appears to be an original file from game resources:

My conversion to wav:

And a nice online service to edit wav files:

Convert the wav to cas with an MSX wav2cas.exe program, use that cas file in any emulator, start the emulated MSX and do CLOAD .
It will show FOUND: VOL2 but it will not complete loading.

I assume a real MSX will yield the same result but it's rather cumbersome to test that.

Is it possible this particular file is clipped at the end? It seems to show a volume decrease and then it ends, while the signal is still going on.

Could you be more specific please with what emulator and MSX machine you were able to get VOL2 message? All I get is I/O device error with blueMSX and "not a valid CAS image" with openMSX.

I've added more beeping between two data blocks so it may be recognised as a header, give it a try:
