Hi,

Are there scans available of any MSX English Language programming books (Not manuals). There seem to have been quite a few, but they do not often appear to come up on Ebay. I'm looking to improve my BASIC and make first steps in MSX Specific Z80 Machine Code.

Many thanks

You could check here as well, but I'll don't think you find what you're looking for.

Hi Jonesypeter. I have two books in English, one for BASIC and one for Introduction to Machine Code for MSX. I definitely don't mind scanning them for you since I'm pretty sure they are out of print and no longer being sold, but then again in case there are copyright issues with this, I won't post them here on a public website and would ask that you not distribute them.

It's a lot of pages and material, so it might be something that may take awhile for me to scan. I have a scanning to PDF machine at work, maybe I can figure it out how to use that to save time.

Hi Thomas,

That would be really great. Thank you very much in advance. I fully agree not to distribute them, and can confirm they are for personal use only.

Kind regards

Peter

Alright, Peter. I'll see what I can do. Again though, it may take me some time to get all of this scanned, but I'd be happy to help.

There's some information about Machine Code in "The Complete MSX Programmers Guide". Also look at the magazines for download on http://www.electricadventures.net/ViewCategory.aspx?Id=7 . The problem is that MSX wasn't very popular in English speaking countries and it seems that MSX2 was never released in any English speaking country. Dutch is one of the most similar languages to English. I recommend you read the book Dutch in the Teach Yourself Books series, which was how I started to learn Dutch. You could also try watching some of the TV programmes on http://www.rtlxl.nl/#!/gemist . Some Dutch vocabulary about computers is as follows: toetsenbord - keyboard, tekstverwerker - text editor, ontwerpen - to develop/development, tekens - symbols, beeldscherm - monitor or display, spatiebalk - space bar, keuzen - to choose or select, afdrukken - to print out, lezen - to read, muis - mouse, invoer - input, tekenen - to draw, machinetaal - machine code, geheugen - RAM, schijf - disk, intikken - to type in, spel - game. I hope this helps!

subtleties: tekstverwerker = word processor Smile
ontwerpen = to design
ontwikkelen = to develop

Hi Jonesypeter,

Thank you for posting and reminding me of this. I promise I will work on this soon. I'm currently working on some graphic edits for a fan-translation of the Falcom game Nayuta no Kiseki (PSP) that I need to wrap up first, but maybe I can start on this sometime next week if possible. I'll start with the Starting Machine Code on the MSX book first and see how that looks. The problem is the time that it takes to scan stuff in, but I have downloaded an App on my iPhone now which should speed up the process of scanning significantly. The MSX Basic book has a lot more pages, so let's just see how well the first book looks.

Thanks again for the reminder!

-Thomas
