I was wondering, is there a database available with all the msx-games and applications that have been produced through the years? And I mean a database file, something you can download, not some online database search.

If not, i'm working on one. Smile

Currently, I have put over 1700 games in an excel sheet with these data columns:

TITLE TYPE LOCATION SYSTEM YEAR DISTR. DEVELOPER kB NR.

TYPE would include rom, dsk, bas/bin, cas, etc.
LOCATION includes position on the msx1-mania collection, stuff like that
SYSTEM type of computer the game was designed for: msx1/2/2+/Turbo-R
YEAR year of publication (copyright year)
DISTR. / DEVELOPER include the names of the distributer/publisher and the developing company or individual(s), if available
kB would be the size of the game 8/16/32/64/128/256/512/1024 or some other size
NR. is the publication nr of the game, like the RC-??? for Konami Games

Is anyone interested having this database, because i've not finished putting in all the available data yet... Let me know. If you have any suggestions for the database, please feel free to post them.

I was thinking of including a "CHEAT" section, for cheats with each game, but this would be a major operation. Smile

Thanks in advance.

Sure, i've added a couple of dozen demos already to my database, and some applications as well, but i don't have much expertise with the msx-appz, but i'd like the database to be as complete as possible. I will contact sandy of generation msx to see what we can do.

I wanted to create something you can keep on your harddisk, a printable list that you can manipulate. For example, with this database it's really easy with to do selections: you can select all games of 1987 for example, or all the 128 kbyte roms from T&E Soft, or all the spanish MSX2-games of 1990 and beyond. :D

And you can create extra columns of course, maybe one with your own personal score that this game would get from you.

Anyway, I'll keep you posted.

I'm also busy creating the most complete game archive to download, but that's another issue. Right now, it would comprise of 1500 of the 1700 games in my database (all different games in sorted folders, no duplicates and and no avalanche of broken games (like the Tosec archives)). But as this would be a semi-legal issue, i will not discuss it any further here. Check your ed2k in a couple of weeks Wink.

The database will hold no files, only the listing, which would perfectly legal Big smile.

I got loads of demos sorted out already, I could mail/upload them if you like. (only 188 Mb so far Wink )

hmm, I could dump them on a CD and bring them to the msxdev03 next week..

A games database with downloads is not semi-legal it is completely illegal. There is no excuse for that.
