@Grauw: Problems I had when drawing the logo: if I tried to redistribute the extra pixels to the bottom and the top of the M letter, I couldn't align left and right slants anymore, and the M got narrower or wider than desired (plus it looked bad in the place where the M's "legs" met). The X is just difficult because it is actually asymmetrical in the original logo. But I will try again, after seeing your animations I felt encouraged. Big smile

Yeah I saw gdx’s logo actually had different pixel distribution for the M and that didn’t hit the sweet spot either. And indeed I noticed also the MSX2 logo has similar asymmetries for the X. But I didn’t mean fully symmetrical, just that e.g. the bottom right leg of the X has a different slope pattern alignment on the sides. And I think the “crotch” of the X (heh, where the bottom legs meet) could benefit from that tweak as well. But no biggies, you don’t notice I think unless you pay close attention (like I did when entering the bitmap data as RLE). Glad I was able to encourage! Big smile

I tried again and both the top and the bottom of the M became too chunky or too smooth, so I decided to trim the top and bottom lines of the logo, so it's two pixels shorter now. I made the X a bit more regular, and I think it's difficult to spot the difference if you don't compare it side to side with the original logo. This is what I came up with:

What do you think?

Edit: I didn't notice at first, but the entire logo became two pixels narrower as well, due to the more regular slopes on the X. So it would be better to shift everything one pixel to the right. I would like to convert it to the MSX now as well, but it's a bit too late for me today, so I'll leave just the prototype here for the time being.

Nice job Grauw! Quickly done and well done.

I like the 6th logo (@24s).

Parn, maybe this isuits best:

It's closer to the original.

I'm not planning anything, but the smaller it gets, the larger the chance that someone is able to cram it into the standard MSX1 BIOS ROM... although... I'm not sure if there's any free space in it at all. Does someone know?

MSX1 32K ROM is really quite carefully used... I bet they would have liked to put in MSX-logo and things like ie. graphics copy functionality. These things were already implemented in Spectravideo 3x8 but after implementing MSX standard routines they just did not fit in anymore. Adding yet another 16K would have raised the price too much so we got what we got for a reason. In MSX2 they just had to give up and put that extra ROM there. Developers anyway needed to get some space to move around, so on MSX2 they needed to send some of the already implemented stuff to SUBROM and that is why ie. printing to SCREEN 3 is painfully slow on MSX2 if you compare it to MSX1. I find it quite unlikely that we will see MSX-logo put in to MSX1 ROM without removing some of the other functionality or adding another ROM... Maybe this work can have some future life with C-BIOS project?

NYYRIKKI: did you check for space at the end of the ROM, so just below 0x8000? There seem to be a few hundred bytes free there, including the space for the old logo... did I see that correctly?

About C-BIOS: we explicitly avoided the word "MSX" there, as it tries to be independent of anything copyrighted or trademarked.
I think the C-BIOS logos are already pretty cool, but of course if someone implements and even more impressing set of logos, we could talk about it in the team and update it. (For one thing: the MSX2+ C-BIOS logo isn't different from the MSX2 version, so that could be interesting.)

No, I don't see it in there... After logo I can see slot handling routines + screen mode, USR, cassette parameter etc. default system variable tables in there... last 34 bytes look like free to me though.

I think it looks really good, but what do you mean by closer to the original? Most versions seen here seem to use roughly the same dimensions of the MSX2 logo. I also used the vectorized logo at Wikipedia as a reference. Yours is wider, and would became even wider on a real machine (due to the MSX's pixel aspect ratio).

Heh, I like the idea of MSXPen Smile Hadn't seen that site before!
