Hi together, i am a newbie to msx and recently purchased a toshiba TX-10.
When I connect it to my tape recorder, the recorder always runs. When I type motor off, the tape keeps running and when I type motor on, the tape stops. Its swapped?
When I save a program on tape, the running tape stops for a few seconds, the the tx-10 says OK and then the tape continues running. When I unplug the remote, I can save a program and also load it properly..

I already swapped the +/- on the tape recorder plug by resoldering it, because I thought it would solve the problem, but its exactly the same effect.
What can I do??

Thanks in advance.

the motor on / off command just active a relay
i think the problem is on tape recorder and not in the MSX

motor on and motor off should produce 2 different click sounds coming from your MSX (from relay), do you hear them both ?

Yes, when I type motor on it makes a high click, and motor off produces a lower click sound, so I assume the relais works fine... The cassette recorder is a Grundig CR 110 by the way.
its like the commands MOTOR ON and MOTOR OFF are swapped. the cable hasn't been resoldered, it looks good. I will put a video clip on youtube and post the link here, where you can see whats the problem...

Either tape recorder or cable has a problem. Is it DIN5 or DIN8 ?

look at if the relay were replaced in HX-10
if this is not the good model and if the contact is reversed

It seems that someone has connected pin 6 or pin 7 in the tape connector to wrong pin of the relay (inside MSX) On the relay there is typically one side with 2 pins (this is ok) and one side with 3 pins where the middle pin is connected to pin 6/7 in din, other side pin is disconnected and other side pin is connected to pin 6/7 in din. Take this last connection and move it to the other side of the middle pin.

As graphical representation:

If the connection looks like this:

O O X

 O O

make it:

X O O

 O O

... or other way around...
(X means not connected)

When I connect it to my tape recorder, the recorder always runs. When I type motor off, the tape keeps running and when I type motor on, the tape stops.
It's easy to troubleshoot.
Does tape recorder run when its DIN8 is not connected to the computer?
If yes, then problem is in recorder, if no - then in the computer.
As soon as you will find it out, go troubleshooting specific device.

1) Try pushing LOAD button on tape recorder only after the MSX is powered on & see if this makes a difference.

2) Simple fix: unplug the relay cable (the thinner of the 3 jack plugs). Only leave record & play plugs inserted, and manually start / stop the tape as needed.

In fact this is preferable method! oOQuestion If you push start right away & control through computer, the tape normally stays pressed at "PLAY" position but with motor off. In this position the tape is pressed between a small metal pin & rubber roll, a long time this way can produce wrinkles in the tape. Not good especially with fragile old tapes. Under manual control the tape is either running, or this rubber roll doesn't press against the tape (when stopped). Summarized: whenever the tape is stopped for more than a minute or so, use mechanical STOP button rather than PAUSE or computer-controlled motor on/off.
