I want to convert a videofile to a .vid file which I can play in SymbOS with SymPlay.
I have already converted my videofile to .AVI, downloaded SymStudio and was able to convert my file to a .SMF file... and that is where I ended up. How do I convert this file to a .VID file?
Some additional questions:

* What do the MSX 5,6,7 & 8 buttons represent?
* What is a sane resolution & framerate?

Did you try the last Quigs release? It will create the video for you. Using mpg input format. It will split the mpg in one mp3 audio file and one SymbOS video file. You can set the framrate as well. Normal is strong 6/7 per second. You can put more frames in but those will be skipped depending your system performance.

OK, in the mean time I have progressed a bit. After creating the .SMF file, you can import this in the "video studio".
My guess is that the MSX 5,6,7 & 8 buttones represent the screen mode.
After selecting "Open vid" I can drag the media icon to the timeline to for example the A video line. I can now see the different frames by dragging the timeling thingie horizontally.
After selecting "Output video" the computers starts converting frames, but.. no preview and the file I end up with doesn't show anything in SymbOs.

Anyone any idea here?

I haven't been able to find this file on the web. Only a paid download link. Can you supply it to me? Or give me a working link?

Here is the download link Quigs Download

After downloading and opening Quigs, go to the "Graphic tab" and then choose create video. Be sure you use a mpg video and place the video in the video directory.

Then "dubble click" the filename and the capture will start. It will do this to the end of the video or after you press stop when you want to capture a part of the video.

After the capture you have to set if you want the video in 4 or 16 colors, you can set the size, or change some other settings. If you are done press "output video" Than the video will be saved in the same folder as a VID file which you can open in SymbOS. There is also a MP3 file. (Which contains the audio of the VID) Next release of the video player will probably support MP3 playback as well...

Hope it will work ! Please share your results. It will make Trebmint happy i think.

That worked quite well Smile It had to be an MPEG1 file to be precise (mpeg2 became a big mess), but... I finally got what I wanted.
As for publishing the result. Well, ehrm.. What can I say. I do have a reputation and I lived up to it, so I don't know what Trebmint will think of it. But it can be found in the SymbOS install on my site Smile

Thanks for using the video feature Smile I think you're the first to use it ever, and I see you're using for its correct purpose haha. Its a bit clunky but the best the language I use can do. Hoping to get a light version of the player into the language so we can have video playing in apps/games
