Which machine do you have exactly and what would you like to run, for example?

I have emailed him saying he needs a secure store or eBay account or eBay store

Why should he do a ebay store when selling things in his own online store?
You transfer your money via PayPal, add the PayPal fees and are safe for whenever Amigas gonna take control over all.

256 colours I think the many people online here vouching for Manuel from msxcartridgeshop, a long time MSX user, is worth many times more than any website certificate padlock icon which anyone can request for free. Https is not needed if you don't submit payment or login details. Also PayPal purchases are insured, so if you're unhappy you can request money back via PayPal (read the PayPal terms).

About alternatives, I think one should also consider user friendlyness. The MFR comes preconfigured with a boot image which starts you straight into the convenient Multi Mente interface. With the option to remove it for more advanced users. I don't know about the alternatives, but I don't think all of them have similar convenience for the novice MSX user. If you'd like to have plug and play without having to worry about diving into the MSX OSes, this is something to consider. I can't tell you about the alternatives since I haven't used them.

Because if anything goes wrong bank will want to know why i was not using a secure site or making payments to pay-pal accounts with no proof of purchase or official receipts.

The machine is Philips NMS 8250

It's out of my hands the security issue as it's someone else paying for me and i can't argue with them

If the disk drive is working and you have a means to write disk images to real disks, you could run these....
