Looks like a lot of people know MSX from their teens. One creates powerful memories at that age, it seems Smile.

Hi!

1- what is the year when you bought your first MSX ?
My bigger brother got an MSX (as a Christmas present, I think) in 1986. It was used by all the kids in the family (including me).

2 - Which model?
Goldstar FC-200

3 - How old were you?
4 years old

4 - Did you upgrade to MSX2?
Years later, yes =) Technically, the MSX2 was the first one I ever bought myself.

5 - If yes, what year? Which Model ?
It seems it was in 2010, when I got an Philips NMS8255.

You may use this date for question 1 statistics, depending on how you want to relate the reality with your questions Smile

6 - Estimate how many originals games (or software) you bought at this time (in '80 '90) ?
>between 5 and 10 - >between 10 and 20? - >Between 20 and 30? >more than 30?

Short answer: 5-10.

I bought none, as I was too young to have enough money to buy MSX Games =). When I was old enough, none was for sale anymore.

There was a lot of piracy at the time, but I believe we had around 5 originals (only one cartridge, guess which one!) - probaly bought by my parents, or maybe my brother.

After 2010, when I started collecting, I've bought dozens of originals.

7 - If you think about your first MSX, which title comes instantly to your mind?

Penguin Adventure =)

8 - If you think about your first MSX2, which title comes instantly to your mind?

SD Snatcher at the moment. Ask another day and I will answer differently.

9 - Did you leave the MSX at a time? For which computer ? and when?

I left for PC in the '90s as a primary gaming platform.

Somewhere in between I had a Famicom clone, but don't remember the years (well, technically it's not a computer in the traditional sense but a gaming console... which technically is a computer .... aaah I'm thinking in circles again Big smile ).

10 - Do you think your current job, have something to do with the MSX?

None whatsoever.

11 - Please indicate your home country (When you bought your first MSX)

Finland.

Cheers!

p.s. As a kind of related video link - MSX mentioned!

1- what is the year when you bought your first MSX ?
October 1984.
Technically, I did not buy it. It was given to me by the importer because I had bought a Spectravideo a few months earlier based on the fact that it was supposed to be an MSX, which it wasn't. So my parents took up legal action for false advertising, and they won.

3 - How old were you?
16 years old.

4 - Did you upgrade to MSX2?

1- what is the year when you bought your first MSX ?
Either 1988 or 1989. It was for my 11th or 12th birthday.

2 - Which model?
Philips VG-8020

3 - How old were you?
11 or 12

4 - Did you upgrade to MSX2?
No, but I did buy multiple MSX2 systems later on as a hobby. I moved to a 486SX 25 from my VG-8020, so that was the actual upgrade I guess.

5 - If yes, what year? Which Model ?
-

6 - Estimate how many originals games (or software) you bought at this time (in '80 '90) ?
More than 30. Games on cassette were not that expensive. I could buy one every two allowances (or three, for the times I gave in to the temptation of the broodjes kroket at the school cantina). I also bought/received some cartridges, but the tapes add up to around 40 or so. I still have them. Smile

7 - If you think about your first MSX, which title comes instantly to your mind?
Jack the Nipper II. My sister loved that game, and wanted to play it all the time. I didn't like it at first because I couldn't get that far, but it grew on me.

8 - If you think about your first MSX2, which title comes instantly to your mind?
Probably Aleste 2. I used to play that as a kid at a friend's and I always wanted to be able to play it at home. When I bought my first MSX2 (a Philips NMS 8250), I played it for ages!

9 - Did you leave the MSX at a time? For which computer ? and when?
Yeah, for my 486SX 25. I stayed with PC up until the later Pentium models.

10 - Do you think your current job, have something to do with the MSX?
Absolutely. I started learning Basic soon after I got my VG-8020 and have been coding ever since. I'm a frontend developer at a web agency now. It's still a bit of a dream (maybe a fantasy, I don't know) to make and release a game written in ASM for MSX. I seriously daydream about proudly manning my own stand showing my own game at a fair. :)
