Hi Manuel, thank you and ups... it already happened.
I think they work in an action game, have a look here
But you are right, in general, the music should build up fast, to be restarted over and over. thanks for your advice!

Hi VGM enthusiasts,
here is a "sneak preview" of some "Alien Attack" ingame music. I use the fantastic tool "Arkos Tracker 2" and experiment with different techniques of sound generation.
And yes, these are not all my creations, I just ported them for the PSG. They will be all credited in the game and in the song files itself when finished.

LITTLE MUSICAL QUIZ:
The first person that posts all musical references (Title and composer/artist) here in this thread will win a copy of the final game "Alien Attack" (in case it will be finished next year AND is worth being released on cartridge... :-))

Very nice indeed. I hear a lot of familiar stuff, but my memory isn't helping me.
Love the XenonII track though!

Hi tfh, yes thats the first (half) point for you: "Megablast" from the Amiga game "Xenon 2".
Who was the artist of the original?

Original was from Bomb the Bass, David Whittaker arranged it for the Amiga Tongue
I also hear "Don't you want me" from The Human League.
And i think also Faithless - God is a DJ Smile

At least the first two tracks are the main theme of Amiga's "Hybris" by the all-mighty Paul van der Valk and the next one it's a classic from the french group "Space" called "Magic Fly" Smile

Hey woow. What a quick response!
OK, here are the clarified rules for the quiz (inspired by hamlet's christmas quiz):
The video clip contains 5 "original" tracks and 1 track (the "lame duck") composed by myself.
Every correct answer for a song OR its composer/artist gives 1 point.
Correct asnwers already given can not be repeated.
Most points win.

@ToriHino: Yes that's the correct answer, well both answers. But it is worth only 1 point. Sorry, no human league in here (well, not intended). And Faithless - God is a DJ is correct! (2 points)
@Jltursan: WOOOW. ok, you really nailed it. Hybris in-game music by Paul van der Valk is correct (2 points), there is only on track of Hybris in the video. Magic Fly from Space is also correct (2 points).

Score list:
jltursan - 4 points
ToriHino - 3 points
tfh - 1 points

So, the quiz is nearly finished. There is one track left (worth 2 points)... last one in the video.

Indeed... Hybris. Oh man, I've played that game lot (Just like Battle Squadron for that matter). For those who want to try (and hear the original): Play here!
It sounds really good, but... do I see 4 tracks/channels in use on that track?

very well observed, tfh: The creation of the PSG version of "Hybris ingame music" is still in progress...
To get the "skeleton" of the song, I looked for a .MOD version of the track, which I imported in Arkos tracker (as you surely know, the AMIGA mod format supports 4 channels).
In a second step I try to mix down the 4 channels to 3 PSG channels - thats manually done and more or less a "find the gap" game in the first 3 channels to fill in the notes of channel 4.
The version shown in the video is already optimized, so that channel 4 only plays a copy of channel 2 (the cool melody), with lower volume and a bit delayed. Thats the echo effect for the melody. It can be easily dropped and would still sound well (that's the plan when I use it as a BGM in the game).
In a third step I substitute the amiga samples with PSG "instruments", as far is it is possible (drumsets for example). Why? The original sampled instruments sound crappy because of the limitations of the PSG chip. and more important: to safe memory.

Oh, yes Battle Squadron also is fantastic. The VGM podcast "Pixelated audio" also dedicated a full episode to the music of these 2 games.
