well the GM standard was of course created after the MT-32 was released. So you can’t fault the device for not supporting it.

It was more to explain PAC why it sounded a bit off on his synth. General MIDI and Illusion City were born in the same year. So even if GM was earlier than IC, it still had to prove itself and therefore was not a standard yet as it was too new.

@Meits, I think it's not MT-32's fault but Micro Cabin's.

MT32 was a fault of its own Wink
Micro Cabin could have chosen a better synth, but as sdsnatcher73 said, MT32 was quite wide spread among gamers in that era. I'm just not sure how that related to MSX-users. Iirc Micro Cabin was (one of) the only MSX producer that supported it (once).

Very true. I wonder what other alternatives there could be at the time? It could be interesting to track some of those down and maybe use them for something. I love old synthesizers. Smile

Not saying the MT-32 is perfect, it surely had it's flaws. But some impressive sound could be produced by it. As can be heard from the Akumajo Dracula midi soundtrack for CM32L. Recorded with Munt (same as IC tracks) from ripped midi's.

One of its most underrated (and probably underutilised) features was that its synthesizer could be reprogrammed, something that later, PCM-based MIDI modules couldn't do.

@sdsnatcher73: Moon Fight sounds especially awesome, IMHO Smile

@Parn: agreed! These tracks come with a SysEx initial track setting up the synth and user Instruments. I van share the MT-32 and SC-55 MIDI files (not my rip) if people are interested. The SC-55 miditracks play quite well on my Yamaha MU128.
