Actually, if you have a remote controllable DVD/blueray/video player, you could make a system very similar to the Palcom LD system, just with modern media. The game simply selects the video to be played. Then you can actually make sure the images behind your game are matching the game progress/status.

Yes, that's pretty much the idea. The effects could be quite impressive by the way.

Interesting, by running this experiment I was able to understand the purpose of color 0.
