Lads,

Is there anyone here who can confirm that a modern USB-keyboard works for the 1chipMSX using a USB-to-PS/2 adaptor? If it's a 1cM-software issue: I have that KDL stuff..

And I don't need support for all the nifty media buttons on these new keyboards, just the stuff that works for an MSX.. Tongue

Don't see why not, all the 1chipMSX would 'see' is a PS/2 keyboard. But note there are many of these adapters that are for mice only. If there's a mouse symbol on it, you'll have one of those, forget using it as keyboard adapter. If keyboard (or no) symbol: trial-and-error.

I'd like it the most when someone can speak from experience that such a keyboard-USB-to-PS/2 adaptor works for a 1chipMSX! ^^

beware that the if you take that adaptor with an other pure usb keyboad it will not work.
in fact the adaptor is just the form mechanical adaptor from the plug and all the intelligence is in the keyboard.

In fact the keyboards that come with adaptor can themself switch automatically between ps/2 and usb mode internally , the usb keyboard are just usb and wont work
with the mechanical adaptor.

So , NO usb keyboards wont work.
But YES it exist dual mode modern keyboards that comes with their adaptor for the two cases.

I feared for that yes. Tongue So, question remains whether a pure USB-keyboard, connected with a seperate keyboard-USB-to-PS/2 adaptor works in the 1cM.

To make things perhaps more complex, it should all work within my USB-KVM! Smile

Beware teh ascii art!

  +-----](::) 1cM (vga + usb)
  | +------- PC3 (vga + usb)
  | | +---- PC2 (vga + usb)
  | | | +- PC1 (vga + usb)
  | | | |
+-+--+--+--+------+
| USB-KVM |
| |
+-+--+--+--+------+
  | | | |
  | | | +- pure usb keyboard
  | | +---- pure usb mouse
  | +------- still empty
  +---------- still empty

Which means that during a switch, the keyboard for the 1cM is temporarily 'disconnected', dunno if that's a problem? With a PS/2 keyboard I wouldn't exactly do that..

So, what we need is real USB-code for the 1cM! Why? USB is the future, PS/2 will eventually go the way of the dinosaur. With proper USB-code the 1cM would be a bit more future proof.

yes ocm has 2 usb ports with no code, so it is a bit future proof.
But usb looks an overkill just for keyboard, there should be USB support for mass storage , printer , webcam , network , and then maybe keyboard.
we need usb for so many reasons in fact.
ps/2 interface is so simple instead.

A keyboard is an essential input device for MSX, with USB making it easier to integrate with today's and tomorrow's hardware people have. The other things.. you really want to do that with an MSX? Tongue
