Mohai, you can, but it’s operating outside normal specifications (overclocked), so it may get hotter or have a risk of malfunctioning after longer periods of use. Is there any reason not to use a Z80H? Surely there’s little price difference nowadays...

Years ago, I got a 7 Mhz Kit from Miri / Italy. It included the Z8581CGC kit and a Toshiba Z80 at 6 Mhz.
It worked fine. No hangs nor weird behaviour.
I changed later to a Zilog Z80 at 8 Mhz and noticed no difference.
If a regular Z80 can be overclocked to 25%, does it mean that a Z80-B (6 Mhz) can do the job at 7.1 Mhz?

Only the CMOS version will take this abuse (25% overclock) without complaining. the NMOS version will probably melt and burn a hole through the board. (if won't blow an already abused PSU)

So, you will want a Z84C008 or Z84C010 (without overclock), or a Z84C006 (with overclock) for this.

I will not use a 6 mhz version for sure. I will use it only for testing purposes.
I have ordered some Z80s at very high speed I will use instead. Wink

Price is not a problem nowadays, even for a 20 Mhz version Wink
