@Valeriya: yes bitplane architecture is bad if you think at performances only, because it split the pixel info on multiple banks all at the same address, forcing the access at the same location to be repeated n-depth times for every logic pixel modified in SW).

Of course if you not have any kind of hw support avalilable. Wink

You understood me Smile

The VDP is so fast that on 256x212x16colors you can achieve the speed of 6.25fps! Eh!??? Fast as a dead snail!
Yes but nobody makes MSX games that run at 6fps, right? Because hardware sprites are used instead of double buffering. Amiga is a cool system (I have one) but IMO, I think MSX (and Nintendo, Sega, NEC) had better games

My , was only a comparison, based on only techical data. However, because i'm generally curious, can you send me some link to some doc that explain more in depth the amiga blitter? how can works, what's limits and so on?

Thx.

Nah I disagree, 8 bit games in general don't have the depth and longevity that most 16 bit games have.
In all honnesty, 8 bit games tend to be quirky and one dimensional compared to more 16 bit games.
Bash me for it, but if I play most 8 bit games now I'm bored within half an hour, that goes for commodore 64
to msx, nes etc. Amiga and megadrive at least offer more, but hey... shoot me

This is the best site I have found for Amiga programming details although I'm not sure if it has exactly what you're looking for. I can tell you that the upper limit of the blitter copying speed (with CPU access to chipmem halted) is memory bandwidth (7MB/s) minus bandwidth needed for display generation (depending on screen mode) divided by two.

sorry for being off-topic :(

If was a question, there is an idea to realize an MSX on PLD (Search this site for "OCM"). An already functional and working HW implementation already exists for CPC! Wink Search for "TREX".

Did you ever own an MSX or CPC or worked with it?
