I just buy a Turbo R GT from Japan that cames at it´s original voltage of 100v. Since i live in a 220V country I would like to change the power adapter and I wonder if someone has done it before
Witch outputs has the original power supply?
How many ampers had the original power supply?
It could be interesting to have some pictures or some link to pictures done before. Please ask for advise since I just want to have this conversion done (don´t want to have and exterior adapter)and I don´t want to hurt my new baby.

thank you for the link but after read it I still have a question about the output coming from the TR. I have measure on mine with an external power supply (220v to 115V) from Usa and the output on the Turbo R is 17,65 AC. So my question is how much output should be the new TR
(12 + 12 + gn) or (15 + 15 + gnd) and how many Ampers should have the new TR.

Please let me a hand since I´m very confused

I have check the service manual but I don´t understand it because I´m not electronics so I need a strait answer just to go to the electronic shop and buy the stuff.
Jipe says that he is working with a 15+15v that is closer to my measurements (17,65 + 17,65v) than the 12 + 12v, that I have read at other forum. So it looks like than the 15 + 15v is the right choice so the new question is how many ampers do I need to look for. Please remember that I have no Idea of electronics and I just want to solve the problem with some guarantee (but I´m good with soldering so don´t worry)

It's really quite easy to do, I remember modding my ST back in the days... You do indeed need a 15-0-15 volts AC power supply. These can indeed give a higher voltage (like 17V) when they're not under any load, so it's normal that your measurements come up higher. The most difficult part will be finding a power supply that's roughly the same size, not finding a power supply with the right voltage/power. A turbo R uses very little power, something like 25W so that's not the problem. The voltage is also not that important, I remember not being able to find a 15V adapter, so I used a 17V adapter instead. The rectifiers of the turbo R will take care of that. As long as you stay below 20V you should be fine.

Most turbo R computers in Europe already run on that voltage by the way, since most people use a step down converter which outputs between 110 and 120V, instead of the 100V for which the turbo R was originally designed. As the supply voltage to the turbo R goes up (from 100V to 110V) the output voltage of the power supply in your turbo R also goes up from 15v to 16.5v all the way to 18v in some cases. I've never heard of anyone having trouble using those cheap step-down converters, so using a power supply with a slightly higher output voltage should be no problem either. I think up to as much as 25V would still be fine, but I wouldn't recommend it just to be safe.

But, to answer your question with a straight answer: Buy a 15V - 0V - 15V AC transformer rated at 30W. It should cost you around 10 euros. Be sure you measure the output before installing it. It should give off no more than 20V and -20V between the leads. If it gives off around 40V, you have a model that takes 110V or 220V and will need to read the manual to see how 220V input is connected.

I´m under a shop to do it for me, so by telling them that it´s a 15 o 15 and that the turbo R uses 22w they should be able to rebuilt it to 220 volts. It´s that correct? or they will need any extra data

It will likely cost you a lot more than finding a suitable transformer, but it's a very neat solution which would leave your turbo-R in near-original state! Smile Of course, if they have the expertise to custom rebuild a transformer for you, you won't need to tell them anything at all and can just give them the old transformer. Wink But yeah, 15-0-15 (30W) is all the info they'll need.

A quick search on just one (somewhat expensive and limited website) already gives a possible substitute though. At 17,50 euros it's not exactly cheap, but I think it'd be cheaper than having the old transformer re-wound.

Thank You sonic_aka_t for old your support, I will try to find out the cost of re wire the old transformer and then I will evaluate if I go for this one or try the transformer from conrad. that has be a nice surprise since here in Madrid I have visited 4 places and did not find any suitable transfromer that fits in the original turbo R hole.
