Cleaning keys

I do not know what kind of product you have used, but that picture of the link you see it all put on white foam plastic bodies.

For the keyboard keys, I do not know what to tell you, I'm sorry.

But I to remove the yellow plastic shells and turn it into a
new white, I used the nitro thinner, a diluent which is very strong,
and I recommend using it with gloves on hands on, because this
nitro solvent is corrosive and dangerous.

In conclusion, I removed all the yellow of the bodies of my Commodore VIC20 platic and white is back, or at least almost .....

The product that you've used, which makes the white foam, I do not know.

I hope someone will give them a hand on this forum.

I've cleaned my VG8235/00 keys using glassex, the keys come off easily using a screwdriver to carefully pop them off, but in my opinion, it not worth the trouble to take them off, I just use a piece of cloth that doesn't scratch (not those micro-fiber thingies, any cloth you would use to clean a pair of glasses will do. Q-tips can be used too, but I use a small screwdriver with the cloth wrapped around it, dip it in alcohol 70% or 96%, dont use thinner or aceton, because i'll not only take off the staining, but also the letters.

Of course this is a very tedious job, but on the other hand, how ofter are you going to do this?

Oh btw. the HX-10 button come off easily with a screwdriver too without damaging them, if you want to do that..

Staining is different than yellowing, Sky_hawk and frits9164...

Anyway, usually you can take them off with a screwdriver or something. They shouldn't break, but be careful.

Retr0bright is a great product for cleaning yellowed plastics and it really can restore the plastic to it's original colour.
It's been a long time since I took the keys off my HX-10 but if I remember rightly they come off quite easily with a little gentle persuasion.

First results with retr0brite. After mixing all the ingredients i decided to test it first on a white yellowd Quickshot and a couple of keys from the HX-10. The results are stunning (for me at least). This week i'll apply the retr0brite on the rest of the machine(s).
