You should replace the electrolytic SMD capacitors in the "HIC1" daughterboard ASAP. Yours are still original.

Here's a guide on how to replace them. It's in Portuguese, but any online translator can help you with that.

Thanks. I think I'll likely shotgun ALL of the electrolytics and see if my floppy drive issues get any better. It definitely won't hurt, and it might even help.

This one's finally solved! Turns out both the floppy that came with the MSX _and_ the replacement I bought are both dead. With another replacement in hand, I did the following:

- Move the DC jumper to RDY
- Resolder DS1 -> DS0
- Run a wire from pin 26 of the SEMCO chip to the spot marked OPB
- Remove the HD sensor

Now, I can successfully format disks, and play games from floppy.
