Do you consider this a real MSX computer and as good as the original MSX? Would you guys advice me to go this route instead? Would it be able to use ALL THE CARTRIDGES of MSX up to and including Blaster and so forth?

I consider it as hybrid (half-real, half-emulator). This gives the feeling of a real computer but with similar problems like an emulator (less or more).

About cartridges it's almost same for all OCM. It doesn't support absolutely everything, same for the controllers.

It is an FPGA recreation, like OCM or Zemmix One. I believe it actually is the same circuit, with a redesigned PCB. So I would expect it to be as compatible as OCM or Zemmix One.

The cartridge read / write timings may not be exactly the same as in old real MSXs but they are within the specs AFAIK. And there are differences even between real MSXs. Because of that, there are even real MSXs that are not compatible with every cartridge out there.

However, the OCM design has been in use for many years and got many fixes. I'm confident that all the usual blasters and OPLs and whatever you'll need will work in SX-1 also.

Real MSXs have all same CPU/PSG/VDP timings (if we compare same generation). In addition TTL signals are more respected. But I agree OCMs can satisfies us for almost all usual use, same for emulators.

The SX-1 is good enough to run almost all MSX software and it is quite cheap.

I am waiting for the MSXVR, though. I have seen one of the prototypes in action and I can't distinguish it from a real MSX computer. Of course it is not going to cost 130€, price will be north of that but you get a complete and fully compliant MSX computer (all generations, including TurboR) with integrated keyboard and 4 MSX cartridge slots.

I think that the most interesting 8-bit HW projects right now are the MSXVR and the ZX Spectrum Next. Both of them try to resemble an original machine but with different approaches to achieve it.

Another future buyer of a MSXVR...this machine can run like a TurboR too Smile
I LOVE It!!!

Whether future hardware will be able to keep up with this price is questionable. Fact is, the SX-1 offers a full MSX2+ replacement with new components. Not everyone likes to work on old hardware or spend horrendous prices on collectibles. The SX-1 has become my everyday MSX. I can highly recommend it (and the service its manufacturer provides).
All my extensions seem to be running on it, there is an active scene around the OCM, you can be sure to continue to get updates delivered.
Of course you are free to design your own case.

That is what I was thinking hamlet...it just when I went to eBay to get one of those real MSX computers (MSX2) they are going for 700 dollars....

ranging anywhere between 360 to 700 dollars and some even up to 1,000 dollars. It is exceeding my budget limit in a very long shot.

However, MSXVR truly grabbed my attention as wel. I just love this one because you get to use any off the shelf PC case, keybouard, mouse and poof there ya go as well.

Don't buy an MSX2(+) from eBay, for price tags like that. Here is a marketing place right here on msx.org. And friendly people whom you can always ask who is a good seller etc.

Alright! Then I WILL take your word for it 100%. I will post for my favorite MSX 2 model right now!!!

My biggest fetish of MSX computers is that all hardware upgrades are done via cartridges (console-like) WHICH MAKES ME FALL IN LOVE WITH MSX COMPUTER TRILLION TIMES OVER!!

I LOVE IF I WANT a disk drive i need a cartridge linked to a disk drive external...if I need to upgrade my sound chip in MSX I buy a blaster cartridge and if a game is developed for it I need to have both cartridges installed..the game and the blaster...

MAN I WANT AN MSX 2 COMPUTER !! heheh

I will post it now.
