Hello all!

I've both a Turbo-R GT (that I use the most) and a Philips VG8220 (For gaming only @ifthegirlfrienddoesalowmetoplayatthebighugewidescreentvdownstairs).
Since I almost never use both machines on the same screen I've also never noticed the picture quality difference between both machines!
The old 8220 has way better picture quality, the GT has lines of color difference while the 8220 has clear colors.
The 8220 is connected via scart and the GT from RGB to scart, does this make the difference?
Do I get the same (or better) picture quality if I use the s-video output of the GT?
If necessary I'll post pictures of the difference later.

You will get the best quality with a real RGB cable !
It could be that for some reason your turbo (in combination with your tv and cable) is using the video signal of the scart instead of the RGB signals.

are you sure the signal work on RGB ?
the commutation is 5V on GT and TV required 12V
try forcing the TV in Video MODE

Hi! I might be able to give you some info about this. I own multiple Turbo GT's and 1 ST, a few 8235, 45, 50, Sony 700 and this is from my experience with Plasma and LCD TV's (50 and 37 inch):

The ST gives a clear and perfect image.
The GT gives a screen with vertical lines. This is hardly noticable with grays but striped obvious with color green, red and blue. It works fine on a Philips color monitor. S-video to scart does not work.
The 700 and the 8245 give excellent image quality
The 8235 is a little shacky
The 8250 sometimes mis-aligns 1/4 horizontal. Keeping reset pressed for 5 seconds solves this (but it sometimes switches back!)

I have the same. My MSX8280 has better picture quality using scart compairing then a turbo-r using RGB cable.
(using the same philips monitor) I don't now why but the GT is no so good as it is about picture quality (Have also vertical lines) (hardly noticable indeed, and it's darker)
But for some reason the Philips MSX is better comparing GT.

Worp3: What do you mean with: Real RGB cable ?

I have GT also using a RBG-> scart cable  but my picture quality is just as good as from my 8235, 8250 or 8280
My its just a bad cable?, it is properly shielded, take the plugs apart, are all wires properly attached?

Maybe you can post the pinout?

Greetings,

Jan

What is the best cable with both video and audio for Panasonic A1GT?
My Turbo-R GT gives very bad pictures using the RGB cable. The picture from S-Video looks a lot better, but it does not have audio, not the TR has a separate sutom audio output.

You can always invest on a XRGB-3.  I only get 1080p picture perfect on my GT and with DVI or HDMI output.

Drop the GF if she doesn't like it.  LOL!

Wow, that XRGB-3 Definitely does look nice, but the price is something that I can't seem to shell out right now. Anyhow, nice to meet you. I'm a new MSX hardware owner and only partially know what I'm doing so far getting this to work from emulator experience. I decided to go with the Panasonic FS-A1GT Turbo R. Unfortunately, my unit did not come with anything other than the power cord. It boots up and now that I've replaced the drive belt, it now can read both roms and FDD diskettes.

However, since I do not have the RGB cable with Audio 8-Pin Din that most likely originally came with it, I've only been able to test the picture with S-Video out (which is perfect picture in my eyes) and the audio through a 5-Pin Din Sega Master System/ PC-Engine TurboDuo cable.

I know that this cable for the Sega Master System is different that the cable I most likely need, but I did notice what some of the other posters were talking about in that it appears that once you output one side of the GT using S-Video, it seems to override the audio coming from the RGB + Audio connector right next to it.

I've thrown this quesiton out to Bas Kornalijnslijper, which is where I got my original replacement FDD belt from his website, and he said that he sells cables that are RGB to Scart, which I don't think I'd be able to use since we tend to not have that type of connector in TVs in America, or he can make a custom cable taking the 8-Pin Din to two RCA output plugs, one for video and one for audio, but he stressed that I would likely not get good picture with it.

Guess I'm in the same boat in that ideally, I would like to find something (prefereably cheaper than a $500 XRGB-3) that can allow me to use the best sound and picture. Or if there is something that would allow me to use both the S-Video out from the GT along with the audo from either the RGB + Audio port or the Midi-Out port next to that.

Thanks for your time!

Also, I wonder if something like this could be made as a cable or if I'm way off in my understanding of how video signals work...

Thanks again!

RGB is RGB... if you have some monitor or TV that can handle analog RGB you can connect it.
