I recently got an sfg 05 in the box because i wanted to use the midi in and out and the one i got came in the box for the 05 so i thought it would be okay but i cant seem to get the midi working with it i tried using the keyboard yamaha made for it with midi out to a sound canvas but i get nothing from the sound canvas i then tested two midi keyboards with the midi in and it wouldnt play anything. Is there something im missing about using midi with these or did i get cheated?

Check the screen shots on the wiki articles of the SFG's on this site to find out which version you have.

the "call music" interface is the same as the sfg01 so it looks like someone sold me an sfg01 in an sfg05 box :/

You can upgrade the SFG01 module to SFG05 by replacing the BIOS chip and soldering one additional wire. I did that for my 2 modules and they work fine. You need the special patched BIOS image, I can provide it for you. Some info about upgrading can be found here:

even the midi functions properly? that would be great! I got refunded for the sfg01 but the seller didnt want it back so I was wondering what to do now I have an extra sfg01 I dont need. Could I buy a BIOS chip from you?

Well, this depends whether your module is fully functional. Normally midi keyboards should work fine with the SFG01 module. If they dont work - the module may be defective and upgrading the bios won't do any good.

The main question is - can you do the bios upgrade yourself? This requires soldering skills. You will need to cut out the old chip, clean the board from the pins, install a socket and then solder a wire to the bent up pin and to the board. I can send you the chip, but all other work will have to be done on your side.

ive read that the midi in/out port on the sfg01 was only for exchanging data and i havent been able to use the midi ports on either of my sfg01s with midi keyboards or sound modules or anything...
also i would be able to upgrade the bios ive installed and replaced chips in some video game systems before and other things

Ok, let's discuss the details in private. My e-mail is in the profile.
