Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Megaflashrom SCC+ SD to use on my NMS 8245 MSX2 (and a CX5M MSX1). I have been getting to grips with it but have run into some problems. I once accidentally erased the rom disk (f3 in the recovery menu) and to remedy this I loaded kernel.dat onto my sd card and used option f4 to install it in the recovery menu. As you can probably tell I am not very experienced when it comes to retro computer interfaces/commands. It seemed to work fine again for awhile but now I cannot-

- flash roms from the mm interface by pressing enter or using the dos command "opfxsd program.rom"
- run "OPFXSD dskrom.rom /I1" or "opfxsd romdisk.dsk /ID" when I have these files on my sd card I am not really sure what these do to be honest but I saw them in the manual and thought I should try them.
- flash a disk for exampe: "opfxsd program.dsk/d1"

All these things lead to the blue screen quickly saying "Megaflashrom SCC+ not found"
Pressing enter on .dsk files in mm does load them though, but this does not work for ROM files.
The roms and dsks where working fine before so they are not faulty rips.

I am afraid I have done something really bad Crying please help

Also there is a volume(? it's what it says at the top) called "AB" that is displayed in red text in my B: drive (my 1st partition on my mini sd). I have no idea what this is and it doesn't appear in windows 7. Also I should note that my sd card currently has two partitions - 1 256mb and 1 16mb (for the msx1)

Before this recent crisis I was planning on asking a few questions about loading/flashing dsks (I can't seem to load multiple dsks at once, the 1-9 thing) and mapping partitions (I cannot get this to work) but these will have to wait Question

Thank you.

OK I have reformatted the sd card and installed kernel.dat afresh and that seems to have fixed the issues I was having.

The question about handling dsk files still stands though. I understand there are 2 different ways of 'mounting' them? Is there a simple, step-by-step way I can mount multiple dsks say for instance if I want to play a game that comes with 3 disks and I will need to swap between them during the game?

If you want to mount multiple DSKs, the easiest way is to rename them to .FD1, .FD2, .FD3 , etc.
Then press RETURN on any of them and MultiMente will load them all. Just be sure the DSKs where copied on the SD card in the correct order, because EMUFILE utility will mount them in the same order.

Another way is flashing the DSKs. I.e.:
OPFXSD game_1.dsk /d1
OPFXSD game_2.dsk /d2
...
OPFXSD game_9.dsk /d9

Thanks alot. I've done this with the Snatcher translation but when it comes up with the splash screen and asks for disk 1 (I hold down graph and press 2 where I have it mounted to) it just says "wait..." and hangs there forever. Is this a common problem?

Also another question: If there are 2 ways to mount disks does one supersede the other? If I flash a disk then load one through multimente will it get rid of the flashed one? Will it cause problems? Are disks loaded the new way writeable?

If you flash through multi mente by pressing return on a DSK or FD1 file opfxsd disk.fd1 /D1 will be performed just like you would type manually on the prompt. Whatever was on /D1 will be overwritten. For the rest, whatever FDx you flash from prompt or multimente, it will overwrite the previous flashed disk on that area on the flashrom.
A ROM overwrites a DSK and vice versa.

Really? I could have sworn I've had to hold down both ESC and 0 at the same time to stop anything booting.

It should work fine. I have tested it and can't reproduce that problem.
I pressed 0 to run the game.
Then it asks for disk 1, so I press 2 (1 is the boot disk)
Config menu is show. I select 0 and the game starts.

It is better to not use both at the same time.
Using the new way the DSKs are writable.

Meits explained how it worked before the new DSK load method was released.
In old MFR SD / non updated cartridges, the DSKs are always loaded using /Dx option.
In new MFR SD /updated ones EMUFILE will be used by default in Multimente.

I must have patched it wrong or something then.

The file next_dsk.dat only has the file I have pressed return on not all the fd*files in sequence. Is this normal? For example return on fd1 and only it shows up in the DAT file, press return on fd4 and only that one etcetera.

Edit: just been playing around with aleste 2 and I can't load multiple disks, at least with the new way.

Does the DSKs has the same name? I.e.: SNATCHER.FD1, SNATCHER.FD2, etc...
