Is there a method to sort a FAT16 directory on the SD card?

The fastest way is from PC with this program: FAT Sorter 1.0.4

It's freeware

That could ruin the trust in a utility quite severly.
Best thing to do then is copy to pc and back. The weird thing is that (at least windows) always starts copying the last file first and then starts in the beginnen, but at least there's a lot of order already.
I guess we've to wait until there's someone who's willing to take the challenge to make an MSX version.

Improve doesn't do FAT16? Hmm, well overkill, we don't need defragmenting, only sorting. I always used Multi-Mente's dirsort function. Why doesn't that suffice here?

You'll have to sort every time you start multi mente... I've never found a way to store it... mm doesn't store the chosen order of files as far as I know.

From the MM manual:

wr[Y]ting Write the new directory-data to disk.
                (After sorting)

Multi Mente sort supports FAT16?

I thought I tried it and it didn’t work…

Good find Smile
But that's for the current directory only I guess?

Yes, I've used it from1995 or so... But never on fat16, so YMMV.
