Metal Gear 2 disk version doesn't work on Gotek + TDC clone.

I am wondering what could be the reason of Metal Gear 2 disk version to hang after the Konami's title screen on the Gotek emulator with FlashFloppy v2.13 firmware + TDC600 clone.

If I remember correctly it worked before. But I am not 100% sure...

Hey Alexey, which version of the MG2 on disk are you using? And how much memory does it need? It may be failing not necessarily due to the floppy/gotek part. On the other hand, did you try it with a real floppy drive in the side slot adapter on the same machine? Or possibly with a Rookie Drive NX? Just to make sure what the root cause is...

I have 1Mb internal memory, so there should be enough RAM. The MG2 disk version is 1.2 if I am not mistaken.

I tried the same DSK image in Gotek with the same firmware on YIS805 (it has a different FDD controller). Works fine.

Could anyone, who purchased this device from me, test the MG2 DSK image v1.2 with the earlier versions of Gotek firmware? Thanks.

Not sure how much memory this needs, on my CX7 (128kB) the loading screen is shown when booting from gotekl. It shows 128K and SCC slot correctly but then seems to just freeze. Tried the same thing with Rookie Drive NX (virtual 720kB floppy mode with the same result.

Not sure which FlashFloppy version I have, how can I check?

Afaik MG2 needs 512K memory (the ROM is 512K after all). I seem to recall one disk version which works on 256K and loads in-between, but not sure if that one is translated.

It worked on a machine with 256kb, but different FDD controller.

Try with 512K? Then it doesn't need to access the FDD, maybe that moment causes an issue (e.g. maybe the Gotek DiskROM doesn't disable interrupts during disk access, some games don't like that).

Tried with 1MB of RAM, same effect.

"Gotek DiskROM"?! What is it?

Alexey, are the files fragmented?

I think this specific disk version (it is the translated version by Takamichi and a loader by Maarten ter Huurne) is modified to load pages from sector when the game requires it and there is not enough memory to load the game completely initially. It is probably reading the sectors in a non standard way that does not work with the FDC’s implemented in the RBSC side slot module nor RDNX. It does not even load the first sector on these (indicated by no progress on the progress bar).
