It's a Philips, will have to get back to you with the model number, but it's in the same dark grey as the msx itself.

Sounds like the Philips VS0080.

One thing you could do is to check whether any solder contacts have gone bad, and resolder them. I’d check the connectors first.

Indeed be very wary of high voltages. Maybe read up on the topic or watch some Youtube videos to get tips on what to watch out for.

You could also bring the monitor to Repair-Bas (site), that’s the first person I think of when I have that kind of issue. He’ll also have cheap replacements.

I've already seen two Philips monitors with problems caused by that.

Yes I too once repaired a monitor with this problem.

You are right, it's a VS0080/00. And it's filled with dust. So I'm going to get my girlfriend to clean it, saves me from dust poisoning and being zapped by the tube! And then when it's discharged I'll go and check all the connections with the microscope for cracks to get them fluxed and soldered.

So I followed the pdf on Repair Bas' website, fluxed and resoldered the usual suspects, but still nothing on the screen. I measured the boards, but it looks like everything gets the right voltage... Guess I need some more time to think. Don't be shy, your input could be valuable...
