@Prodatron: Would it be possible to make a small modification to the mp3 cart to make it work in CPC, or are the architectures too different?
Yes, to moderate ppl's language (when required), to edit out warez links, to edit long ebay links, etc. But the 'Edit' option is really next to the 'Reply' option for me, so it's all a matter of incidentally clicking the wrong one, and editing ofcoz looks as normal as quoting. Perhaps I'd opt snout to move the Edit function to the right outer edge orso..
I guess my point with the missing post was to state what other people has said earlier: Great news
but to get back on my point: what's against a co-processor on such a device to prevent loading an already minor cpu with heavy tasks?
I guess that the sound will be mono, or does it have stereo output connectors?
It has 1 stereo output and PEN 49 (MSX bus) mono sound.
There will be 2 versions to order:
- With MP3 and extra I2C volume control.
- With only MP3.
We don't know the prices yet.
It has 1 stereo output
Nice!
I'm interested. i wanna buy it!!! msx goes multimedia> HELLO WORLD
but to get back on my point: what's against a co-processor on such a device to prevent loading an already minor cpu with heavy tasks?
It would almost be like connecting an ipod to the joystick port. From a retro MSX point of view it would just be uninteresting to have a 50 times as powerful co processor. Yobi's design is more retro because the co processor is really not doing much work. I would guess he picked that processor because its cheap and easy to use. I'm sure the functionality could be done in a small fpga instead.
But sure, from a game development point of view, it could be nice to be able to upload a bunch of longer samples and just send simple commands to play them. But I don't think performance will be an issue. With 128kbit mp3's you're only wasting 10-15% of the Z80 CPU time for audio.
Yeah! I have interested.
Amazingl!!
