Excellent! It seems, that we will have at least 30 boards in the first trial run.

Hi. I come late to the party and... well, I'm not a developer, so after reading some pages (sorry, I didn't go through all of them )of this trhead I don't have a clear idea of the capabilities of this board. So, without trying to be rude, would somebody please explain again what exactly does it do ?? And also... what would be the espected price? Tongue

What the board can do:

In the current state - you plug Procyon into the normal unexpanded slot of the MSX computer, you will have:

1. your MSX computer screen over HDMI/DVI-D interface to the HDTV/monitor or projector. On the MSX1 computer - V9918 features, on MSX2 computer - V9938/V9938 features; on MSX2+/TR - V9958 features. In the current state it doens't expand your video RAM. With your native TMS9918 you will address 16K, no more. If you have a native 9938/58 you can go up to 192K if that amount is already installed on the main board of your MSX computer. Both 50 and 60 Hz are dynamically supported.
2. You will have a high definition sound synthesis. PSG, SCC and PPI are emulated. The sound is generated on Procyon and fed to the analogue stereo line outputs, headset amplifier and optical SPDIF/TOSLINK interface.
3. You always have 4 MEGS of memory mapped RAM expansion.
4. ESE-SCC mapper functionality is emulated, so it works with ROMLOAD.
5. SD card/ HC SD card controller (under debug currently)
6. Midi Interface (requires the active cable with the optocoupler like for the SoundBlaster 15 pin MPU401/joystick port).
7. USB interface for the DFU and file transfer (HOST SW to be developed).

In the future state, you plug Procyon into the MSX1 computer, the computer will be expanded to the MSX2, you will have
1. MSX2 BIOS/EXP ROM
2. VDP residing on the 0x88...0x8B addresses
3. RTC emulated

Eventually, you connect it side by side to Canis Minor (another board to be announced) and you can build the MSX TR compatible computer with the Z80 CPU clock rate of 75 MHz.

I'm working currently on the estimation of the target price.

Hey maxis, does it also support audio over HDMI?

@Maxis
Maybe you can team up with someone who can supply you cartridge enclosures as the electronics are probably sensitive.

I wonder, will the SD part also be supplied with a Nextor driver so we have all those nice features like FAT16?

@Grauw
The audio support over HDMI will be included.
Simply, if the audio is supported, then I have no picture on the monitor. Monitor doesn't understand the HDMI stream... Currently for the simplicity I have blocked the audio. This way both the HDTV and monitors can display the picture. Another option is to read and analyze EDID, however, then it is also complex, since DVI-D de-juro dosn't support 50Hz Wink

Bottom line, currently for the sake of simplicity, I don't consult to the EDID of the monitor/HDTV. I force it into the compatible mode and it accepts it, but I loose the sound via HDMI.

When I'll have a startup config screen, the user can select the audio distribution via HDMI (for HDTV only). But I haven't yet started working on the software to do that.

@-Neo-
Great idea about the cartridges. I was thinking about Shapeways, but they are $$$.
I wrote to Konamiman regarding Nextor. He accepts, that Nextor will be included.

Did I read a 75Mhz Z80? Now that is a kick in the performance levels. Finally some decent multitasking capabilities.
