It's truly impressive; but I don't fully understand the role of the V9958. Working as a standalone device (I neither imagine how works the standalone setup) I suppose that it's the main VDP; but does it works as a second VDP if Procyon is working as a "slave" card and is it 100% usable?

MODE1 - Slaved cartridge. (Currently implemented).
In this mode, Procyon works as a cartridge where it "slaves" its emulated VDP to the MSX host computer built-in VDP.
I.e. if you have MSX1, then you will get V9918 emulation. For MSX2 - V9938 emulation. For MSX2+/TR-V9958 emulation.
If now you insert Procyon card into TR, then some games will have incorrect screen, because the built-in TR VDP is 9958, but the emulated Procyon VDP is V9938+ (lacks YJK).
When CPU reads back the VDP memory, the read data comes from the MSX built-in VRAM. MSX VDP is a limiting factor or a "common denominator" in this mode.

MODE2 - Enhanced cartridge.
In this mode, Procyon presents an independent VDP to the system residing on the addresses 0x88-0x8B. BIOS is patched and new BIOS is overlayed.
In this mode MSX1 computer will become actually MSX2+.

MODE3 - Stand alone.
In this mode Procyon will act as an MSX on a CHIP (like OCM). The original MSX computer is no longer needed.
With two Procyon cards and a small cartridge adapter, the full TR+ functionality is achievable.

So having two independent VDP in MODE2, is there a way to get them overlayed through HDMI or it works as the GFX9000 having each VDP its own video output?

See, in MODE2 I can compile both: slaved V9958 to MSX (0x98-0x9B) and another V9958 sitting on addresses 0x88-0x8B. Memory bandwidth is sufficient. Then they will be synchronized and overlayed together. But why do you need 2 VDPs?
I can offer a much better option:
Video overlay. Directly from SDHC card, live, in real-time. Great for games. 16 bit color (RGB 5:6:5).

In any case I have no analog RGB digitizer on Procyon when the MSX slot is enabled.

With 2 VDPs overlayed and synched we can get double amount of sprites per line, dual playfield or 32 color SC5, if Procyon can really do this, it's simply the greatest feature for me Smile.
The video overlay is also a great; but right now I can only think in LD games...or simply a cool way to get 16 bit backgrounds (if I can use a still image all the time).
All in all, the card seems to have a huge amount of possibilities Big smile

Short update:

The HDMI genlock research is finished. I've architected, implemented and tested the final PLL, which has very good performance (the previous 12 topologies are not good enough).
See below the HDMI clock source spectrum:

No spurs comparing to the previous analog discrete and fully integrated solid state solutions!
And the most important - there is no mandatory EMI shield to be placed on top of the circuitry.
Also the lock time when changing the V99x8 scan mode is reduced to 2 seconds.

Now I can finish off the schematics for Procyon 2.0 and start the layout.

Nice! and about FPGA implementation have you completed?
Procycon 2.0? have i missed something and there is there a 1.0 already in 'production' ?
