I'am new to the MSX (HitBit 75P). I've found this project which is really great.
If it's not to late I would be interested in an assembled board :-)

It is never too late. We have even not yet started Wink
Currently I'm in a pre-production design qualification. I.e. the production sample unit is built and I'm verifying/fine tuning it right now.

hi maxis. can you tell me if procycon can be used as a VDP replacement at all on the older 0x98-0x9b addresses, simply by removing the old vdp on a msx1/2 ?
How much current the board drain from the slot cartridge?

Having VDP R/W on 0x98-0x9B wasn't planned yet, but easy to configure.
Currently there are 2 supported configurations:
1. 0x98-0x9B Procyon VDP write only. I.e. the original MSX built-in VDP provides the memory support.

2. 0x88-0x8B Procyon VDP R/W. Running in MA20 emulation mode. Here the original built-in MSX VDP is not used.

If you would like to run Procyon on main VDP addresses for read-write, you will have the main problem on the interrupts. Somehow, the interrupts must be disconnected from the main VDP. There is no major risk of the bus contention on the data bus between the original VDP and MSX data bus buffer since the VDP is a very weak driver. However, the data bus slot buffer can source/sink 24mA. If there is no such buffer (in case of a low cost MSX) then the contention will be directly between the FPGA and the VDP.

The current consumption w/o the external HDMI connection - 120mA. With one HDMI connection - up to 220mA. WIth two HDMI connections - up to 300ma (Procyon powers the external TV serializer/deserializer per HDMI link).

Procyon has 2 USB ports.
If you connect an external USB keyboard/WIFI module, USB FLASH disk or whatever, then it might need to source the required mA.
For example, I'll recommend to use wireless keyboards/mice with the RF USB transciever and Procyon instead of direct connection. This way at least, the transciever consumption is limited to 40mA.

the problem are addresses. not sure how much sw behave in the right way by talking with vdp on the address found in main ROM. i think they assume the vdp is on 0x9x...
so they will interact with the old beast. the procycon is only a mirror with hdmi output in this scenario
