Why not? It's in the MSX hardware list for years already...

Well, I just didn't knew it!
Still amazes me how it was widespread used in Japan.

It's ok, not everyone expects you to know every item in Manuel's MSX hardware list. I'm amazed too how many different hardware was released, and also like it if I see/read about some MSX hardware I never heard of before. =)

A similar but much more common thing in Europe is the Philips Graphic Tablet, NMS 1150. But if you look at the hardware list, there are several other graphic tablet products.

the NMS 1150 looks cool too... I always liked the color scheme on the NMS products (dark grey + black with a red logo).
Much better than the colors of 90% of the IBM clones, or even other home computers.

Were these tablets used a lot to produce graphics in commercial productions? Just wondering...

Nah, don't think so. These tablets (at least the NMS1150) are quite slow and inaccurate. I used the NMS1150 "back in the days" with the program Philips Videographics on my NMS8280. Works good, but not when you want top draw pixel-perfect graphics.
