Hi Folks, Firstly I`d say thanks to this forum to help me upgraded my VDP V9938 with V9958 on Sony HB-F1XD, now I got the clear pictures and playable with konami F1 Spirits 3D. But one thing I found there is no background music after enter the game, I searched the forum and got a word "MSX2+ = MSX2 + FM-PAC" . May I ask what`s FM-PAC ? what`s the difference between FM-PAC and Yamaha YM2413 ? Will FM-PAC can solve my problem ? Thanks a lot .. Smile

FM-PAC is 6 channels of 2op FM-channels plus drum or 9 channels of 2op FM-channels without drum.
The chip is an OPL light, hence OPLL. Yamaha released the chip as YM2413.
This part in the FM part of the cartridge. Before Panasonic released the FM-PAC there was a PAC. The Pana Amusement Cartridge in which is some SRAM to store game situations, but only in games which are compatible with this system.
FM-PAC is the upgraded version of it.
In most cases an MSX2+ has this OPLL on board as MSX-Music. You don't so you need to either get your hands on such a cartridge (should not be too hard) or build it in (possibly possible).
Wanna know more?

You can consider alternatives that are still produced (although not always in stock):
https://www.8bits4ever.net/product-page/fm-pak
http://www.ebsoft.fr/shop/en/msx-hardware/14-fm-paq-lite-wit...

These two come with the real YM2413 chip.

Then there Is of course also Carnivore2 and GR8NET that both have the chip implemented in their FPGA (but don't give a 100% accurate reproduction).
