National CF-3300 disk drive: 1DD or 2DD?

FRS pointed me to some advertisements of the CF-3300 in which "720kB formatted" and words like that appear, giving doubts about whether the disk drive of the National CF-3300 is really single sided. On the other hand, the article is in Japanese, so we can't be really sure. Perhaps it's talking about the disk drive connector on the back, that it can handle 2DD disk drives (like the Philips VG 8235).

Does someone have a CF-3300 or a manual of it or some other evidence that shows whether it has a single sided or double sided disk drive?

This user (see link below) have a CF-3300. The drive seems to be original and when this guy can format on 2 sides and even single or double track.

In addition the MSX2 Technical Hand book below says that CF-3300 have a 2DD Drive.

Well, that's pretty convincing... thanks!

By the way, I have to say, Google Translate does an excellent job translating that doc. That new neural network based translation technique really works well.

Grauw, talking about that Technical Hand Book doc, doesn't it contain some info you can use for the MAP? E.g. that I/O map?

I’ve been reading stuff for the past two hours Big smile. Some interesting tidbits that will be useful for me to quote later in discussions Tongue.

(The I/O map I’ve already looked at and incorporated before though.)

Any idea what that MSX INTERFACE is?

Table 2.2 System Control Port Allocation

“ It is a bit for MSX INTERFACE. If port 0C8H is other than 0FFH, it is judged that MSX INTERFACE exists. MSX INTERFACE is a general-purpose communication LSI, but it is not currently used. ”

Looks like it never came to exist. It was speculated in another thread that it’s probably the YM3802.

Grauw, do you know which machines implement that System Control stuff at 0xF5? I think I at least saw it in the Victor HC-90/95.
And can 0xF7 be used to detect (via bit 3?) whether a digitizer is available? I guess not.

I don’t know… But I think if they have no device controlled by it built-in, there is no need for it.

I guess the second question is best answered by an owner of a machine with digitisation capabilities Smile.
