I recently got a full stack of SCSI devices again to play with together with a Club Gouda SCSI interface and my Novaxis SCSI BIOS. I (re)noticed that Novaxis did not want to use my MO drive so I decided to update Novaxis to finally support it properly....First update of Novaxis SCSI BIOS since 1996 Smile

It can now use an MO drive (128/230MB discs) to boot from. Still only FAT12, maybe I'll try to add FAT16 partition support (will not be bootable).

Can this update be downloaded somewhere? And how did you put it on your Novaxis interface?

It is now on my github page:
github

I tested it with the ROM flashed to a MSX flash cartridge.

I also used MO drive with Novaxis early 2000 or so, which worked fine. I don't remember trying to boot from it though. I had a SCSI box with 2x 1GB harddisk, 1 CD-ROM player and 1 MO drive with 230MB disks.

There was an explicit check for SCSI device type 0 (Direct Access) and now also type 7 (Optical) is allowed. Older versions probably did not check for it or maybe your MO presented itself as type 0.

Thanks, lintweaker for the update.

Well, I have Flashed already (Ver 159.65) my Novaxis SCSI Bios Test FAILED with my Buffalo S640 + MO Disc 230MB I have set the SCSI ID #0 On my NMS8280 with MSXDOS2 the Novaxis show the booting screen fine (pressing DEL key show me the right Detection as OPTICAL) but when try NFDISK a error message show "No 'direct access' SCSI devices online" and NDSKFMT (NOVAXIS SCSI HDD Low-Level Formatter version 1.04) not showing any device the formatting process can continue specifying the SCSI ID# but it never finish exiting to MSXDOS with garbage in the MSXDOS screen.

I used a Fujitsu M2512A. And indeed, as far as I remember (it's so long ago!) it just presented itself as a Direct Access drive.

Have you also included this fix with your update?

Ah yes, NFDISK also checks for 'Direct Access' device types only. So NFDISK needs to be adapted as well. Not sure if I (still) have to sources to it.

Update: found sources to NFDISK v1.00, modified it so it will allow MO drives. (Use at your own risk!)
put it on my github page

If there are sources for those I can include them.

It seems that most (?) MO drives can be switched to either Optical or Direct Access via a jumper setting. At least my 640MB Fujitsu drive can, but it defaults to MO mode.
