Ah! Smile Mentioned Travel not only because I think it's a good piece, but also because I've got the feeling it's a bit overlooked. And hey man, I actually played & finished the game a bit ago Cool

Strange, YM2609 isn't even on the Wikipedia list of Yamaha sound chips: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Yamaha_sound_chips

It's mentioned here : https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%A2%85%E6%9C%AC%E7%AB%9C

as " Virtual FM sound source YM-2609"

Google translation:

(Umemoto Ryu) made a virtual FM sound source of YM - 2609 which was made by combining multiple VST instruments such as VOPM which is an OPM type FM sound source emulator, and on the extension line at the time he arranges.

Virtual FM sound source YM - 2609
The above-mentioned "virtual FM sound source YM - 2609" is from the FM sound source YM 2203 which has the performance of "FM sound source 3ch + SSG (fixed duty ratio) 3ch" which is mounted as the de facto standard sound source in the early stage of the PC - 9801 series , Following the evolution to the FM sound source YM 2608 mounted in the latter half of the PC-9801 series, which added the PCM channel and rhythm sound source, doubling the number of sounds of the FM sound source and "SSG 3 ch + ADPCM 1 ch + rhythm sound source of the same specification as FM sound source 6 ch + YM 2203" It is made so that the number of channels of FM sound source 12 ch + SSG (duty ratio variable) 12 ch + PCM 3 ch + rhythm sound source and FM sound source is doubled compared with YM 2608, SSG not only increases the number of channels but also changes the duty ratio variable By doing so, the SSG sound source that was the same sound through the PC - 9801 series has evolved from the sound side.

According to this specification, techniques such as speech synthesis with analog synthesizer which could not be achieved with chips at that time can be applied, and by changing the duty ratio of SSG and unison multiple sounds, It is also possible to make such a sound.

This virtual sound source was used not only for the soundtrack of "DESIRE spiral" but also for other projects

This ship => (YMF297-F) have inside OPL3 and OPN3 simultanéous.
The problème with this ship it's impossible to find the Datasheet or just the pinout Sad

In the past i have find some information for a project for a cartridge with:
YMF297-F for OPL3 and OPN3
YM2608B for ADPCM and SSG (SSG of ym2602B it's compatible with PSG)

You can find some informations here => http://msxvillage.fr/forum/topic.php?id=1948&pt=3

So, the last time I posted in this thread was June 1st. Not coincidentally, that same day, I started talking to Oliveira to see if I could get a prototype of one of his OPNA carts. Long story short, that never happened, but I did end up getting the schematics for it from him, and used that to make prototypes of my own version called Makoto. His carts are meant for a much broader use, are much more expandable, and are essentially a totally different device. Mine is only an OPNA cart, but is still compatible with the I/O addressing scheme of the original, so these dev builds of VGMplay still work with it.

I was aiming to make 20 of these but the reaction on twitter was between 2 and 5x that. We’ll see what happens.
