Hey guys -

Am I looking at the standard Japanese 8 pin DIN RGB pinout for the Panasonic MSX2+ WSX like from the FAQ, or is the WSX one of the ones that is slightly different?

Thanks,
CK

2 AUDIO
3 NC
4 C SYNC

The FAQ is correct. The WSX shares the same connector used in many other MSX machines (MSX2,MSX2+ and TurboR).

Made an RGB cable this weekend. Just wanted to once again thank you for the confirmation.

Are you sure this is correct for WSX ?
The MSX WIKI tells us that the WSX is different than all other MSX 2/2+

https://www.msx.org/wiki/RGB_(8-pin_DIN_45326)

Are you sure you tested this in a Panasonic WSX ?

I use the same cable for all the MSX2+ and turbo R models I could get my hands on. That includes the WSX. Only the audio and blue signal should be on the same pin. (My) WSX accepts the cable that should not work at all... So I back your question to solve this mystery.
Anyone with an WSX and any other machine who could confirm?

Hi Meits

This guy told us that he used THE SAME cable for many different Japanese MSX.
https://www.msx.org/forum/msx-talk/hardware/sanyo-msx2-vs-so...

This is not the only one telling that... I am starting to think that the Diagram is wrong.

To use an RGB monitor you can use the same RGB cable for A1WX, A1WSX, Turbo-R, etc.

You will need a different cable only if you want to use the tape interface (which, in A1WSX is embedded in the RGB connector)

The connector pinout is here.

Don't pay attention to the pin numbers, they are almost all messed, take a look in the pins position, which are correct.

I see that the pin layout you linked to matches the one in the wiki on this site. But the one in the wiki on this site does not match the default rgb cable that fits all the other computers.
And what if you happen to use the tape interface in this RGB connector, will it shuffle around almost every pin.

The practical part is clear: it works and I know my unit is not special in it. Good to know. Thanks Smile
The theoretical part is still a bit unclear: see above Wink

This pinout description is wrong if we can use the same RGB cable for A1WX, A1WSX, Turbo-R, etc because some pins not correspond.

Wiki use same pinout as that:
https://www.msx.org/forum/msx-talk/trading-and-collecting/wt...
But if the same RGB cable can be used il is wrong too because Red and Green signals are reversed and some other pins not correspond.

Right pinout is probably that:

1 CSYNC / CMT GND
2 Audio
3 AV / CMT IN/OUT GND
4 CSYNC
5 YS / CMT IN/OUT
6 R
7 G
8 B

There the question is still unanswered.
I guess I'd better send Europe's most famous Japanese computer refurbisher a mail as he has probably seen a lot of them.
