Hi, I know there excists an upgrade for this module. As far as I understand the memory is expanded to load larger samples.
1. Whar are the programs, demos, games that use this?
2. How does openmsx emulate this. Do i need a special rom, or is the music module rom already “pimped”?

1. Most famous is Unknown Reality by NOP. Probably some more.
2. The original Music Module is emulated in the Philips_NMS_1205.xml extension file. The 'audio' extension is the same, but without the useless ROM and with the 256 kB sampleRAM. But there is also the Boosted_audio extension. That one is similar, but also has the MSX-AUDIO BIOS and should also be recognized automatically by Japanese games that use MSX-AUDIO. And can be used from BASIC Smile

It's funny. NOP set the hardwarestandard to 256K with their demo. I don't know any other piece of software that supports this. Sampbox 4 macro could be one, you might say, but that tool uses the computer's ram.
So if you're not about to watch Unknown Reality you're not going to miss a thing when it comes to sampleram.
The rest of this board might be fun to have. It makes the music module usable with a handfull of Japanese games in stead of the FM-PAC.

Sampbox 4 generated files could be uploaded to the Music Module's RAM. That is what Unknown Reality did. There was a player included for that.

Now that you're here, I'd like to know. How odd does it feel to know you set the hardware standard (which is still lived by today: Gr8net/Audiowave) but never became a software standard?
I can imagine there's tons of humor in that Big smile

BTW there are some not bad VGMs from other platforms for this chip and they use 256K so... still worth upgrading

@TheKid:
This is Operation Wolf Enhanced but 512KB RAM Required and 2 Music Modules with 256KB for ADPCM SAMPLES is not mandatory but RECOMMENDED.

For us, it was somewhat the other way around. Somebody offered an expansion to 256K and we just started to make fun stuff for that new hardware. It felt like somebody else did the work setting a new standard, we were just using it.

Too bad nobody else (at that time) started to make stuff using that expansion.

For some reason, I still am interesting in developments for the Music Module. That is in fact the reason why I read this topic.

A hack for Moonblaster 1.4 would be so great.
