Hello everyone!

I saw this JoySNES adapter on the wiki (https://www.msx.org/wiki/Popolon_JoySNES) but I cannot find any further information about it on the Internet.

Does anyone have further information?

Thanks!

JoySNES is a new adapter sold maintly on ebay.

I tried it with an original Super Famicom controller and a Chinese clone. I played several games, all worked. Roller Ball and Fire Ball are more fun by using Left and Right buttons.

Start and Select buttons are set as on FM-Towns controllers.
I tried a SNES mouse with Graph Saurus 2.
I’m waiting for the manual.

I really enjoy SNES controllers. They are robust and still repairable.

Would be very nice if it supported the Joymega protocol, since then we can use all 8 pushbuttons independantly. Although I have plenty of megadrive controllers, I also have snes joypads lying around.

Found it on eBay, thanks!

I agree about Joymega. It would be a really cool feature, I have contacted the maker to check whether it is in the products route or not. Smile

I only know that games do not need any patch to work with JoySNES. Also this adapter have two different protocols to read the direction and each of the 8 buttons independently.

Hi all,

gdx is right. I got the reply from the maker yesterday:

Quote:

Hi and thank you for your interest,

Yes, it's one of its features. If necessary, it is possible to read the status of the 8 buttons or to check if the JoySNES is connected or to make a direct access to the SNES device. These features are grouped together in the extra mode. By default, the adapter is in MSX standard mode (This means that additional functions are disabled in this mode). All these features will be detailed in the documentation that will soon be available.

Hi all,

I finally got my adapter. Default pad settings works perfectly. Also SNES mouse works without any issue (tested on SymbOS). It can read all the buttons independently. The maker sent me some application to test it and it works nicely Smile.

Do you know if creating a ROM patcher (as with JoyMega) is hard? I suppose that it should be something that overrides joystick reading function (BIOS perhaps?). Just a wild guess.

Anyway, if you like SNES controllers, this is a nice option to have them working on MSX!

I just received my joySNES cables. Really nice to play some MSX games with a Super Nintendo controller. Excellent product! BA-team

Here's an article on how to build an SNES to Megadrive controller adapter. With minimal effort it can be turned into a SNES-to-joymega adapter. Then all buttons would be mapped independently.

I prefer to have a JoySNES + JoyMega because the JoySNES is directly supported by games with autofire and configurable buttons. So, I enjoy the benefits of each.
