My new project I'm working on is to restore a butchered NMS8245
I've got this machine from someone who expanded it with a 2nd drive and an extra fan for cooling.

As you can see this is not the most clean way to add these extra's and making it also hard to transport without breaking something.

After removing the drive and fan I found out that the case was realy butcherd and was looking for a way to give this machine a bit of it's old face back.

In my opinion the only way to do this, is to cut out the grille and replace it with something that would fit in.

Using polyester putty to cover all the holes and gaps.

Almost done for spray painting.

I'll post an update of any progress. Realy would like your comments.

Are you going to spray paint it yourself?

Yep, already having the primer + paint.
And the paint is the original NMS color Big smile

I'm thinking about spraypainting the diskdrive also.

you propably allready know all this by doing before. but the puty will most propably give another texture then the original plastic even after thorough sanding. To prevent the puty to show structural differences. It is best to apply primer. Sand a little, apply again, sand a little and to this like 20 time. It will become insanely smooth Smile

I really love the idea of the metal grill. It looks really cool.

I'm curious also Big smile I have no experience at all in this area, but using my MSX hobby to gain experience in all kind of things.
Maybe if it looks cool I'll add some MSX Blue backlight beneath the grille.

What is your opinion ?
Spray-paint the grille or leave it in it's original metallic color ? (it is aluminum)

difficult one. Since you go for grey I comply with Grauw: use paint Smile
I would go for a different color on the grill though. Black paint for example. Ohw one more thing. Aluminium is one living horror when spraypainting it. You need a special primer otherwise the paint will come of.
