they are both broken ? how did you do that ?
you can also work wat the capslock (right next to the "graph" key )
i already fixed it. it was a broken ribbon cable
Hi,
I have the same problem with both "Shift" keys but on a VG 8020. "Caps" work but cannot writte upper symbols (: " etc.) because I need Shift keys to be working. Strange that both keys stop working but all the others still work. Can you please descrive the procedure you took to resolve the problem?
Thanks so much.
Same problem, on my Fenner SPC-800.
It happened after long time of inactivity, ant storage in a dusty environment, so, I thought it is due to some dust, or contact oxidation, but it's anyway strange: both shift keys, and only those!
Any suggestion is welcome.

Anyways, I'm not sure I'm helping ... but because of the fact that you have totally different MSX models, I find it unlikely for them being fixable in the same way as the OPs MSX (althought the issue is similar). I'd guess they are built very differently.
The first obvious step would be to open the MSX and take a closer look at the keyboard. Look at undone solderings etc. It is also possbile that the SHIFT keys are connected "in parallel" (I'm not sure the MSX can differentiate between left and right SHIFT) - and if so, it could be a single (dedicated) line for SHIFT, that is broken. In case your MSX has a ribbon cable, that would be a likely culprit. Trace the SHIFT key traces and use a multimeter for checking.
Thanks for pointing this thread out to me, Wild_Penguin.
I have the exact same problem here, last night the shift keys of my 8220 stopped working.
Will open the machine up to see if there's any obvious problem that springs to my eyes. Might take a while since I'm very busy during weekdays.
The SHIFT key issue has been solved, check out my corresponding post here: https://www.msx.org/forum/msx-talk/hardware/philips-nms-8220... !
Cleaning the flat connectors was enough. Now it work perfectly.
Thanks to all
