Should the MegaflashSCC+ sound like this?

*I started a new topic, because I cannot change the title of the original*

I noticed that all SCC music has a weird "clicky" or "snappy" sound. It's almost like distortion. I'm really baffled, what this is all about. I guess you'd better listen to it yourself. Here are the sound files:

Nemesis 2, uses emulated PSG of MegaflashSCC+ koti.mbnet.fi/olliraa/msx/nemesis2_emulated_psg.mp3
Nemesis 2, uses real PSG of NMS8250 koti.mbnet.fi/olliraa/msx/nemesis2_real_psg.mp3
Parodius, uses emulated PSG of MegaflashSCC+ koti.mbnet.fi/olliraa/msx/parodius_emulated_psg.mp3
Parodius, uses real PSG of NMS8250 koti.mbnet.fi/olliraa/msx/parodius_real_psg.mp3
FIrebird, a non-SCC game with internal PSG of NMS8250 koti.mbnet.fi/olliraa/msx/firebird.mp3

As you can hear, the "clicky/snappy" distorted sound is almost identical in Nemesis 2 and Parodius, only a bit louder (as the whole audio level) with the internal PSG. It's almost like one instrument would be "broken". With Firebird you can hear that the PSG of my NMS8250 is indeed ok

Ho can the emulated PSG and real PSG pruduce the same result? I presume the distortion (or whatever it is) is *not* how it should sound. Or is it? Is this one more "NMS8250 audio path just sucks eggs" type of a problem ;)

NMS8250 (psu mod/audio mod done by Bas)
opamp mod (originally by Daemos)
MegaflashSCC+

Thanks :)

Does it also occur on a non Philips MSX?

All problems I heard of are all related to this brand of MSX-es (8250,55,80).

Unfortunately I have no means of testing this with another msx myself. It turned out that actually the sound is almost identical on a Turbo-R of Manuel (the guy behind ther MegaflashSCC+). So I guess it sounds as it should Smile I'm just being too hi-fi here Wink
