I have a Spectravideo 728 connected to a Sony LCD tv via composite. When I turn the 728 on, the screen turns to blue but there is no text. Is something wrong or do MSX computers have issues with modern TVs?

It was sold to me as working but it had not been padded inside the box, so I'm wondering what it has gone through during transition.

Obvious thing would be to test with another TV, and/or try UHF (modulator) output. And perhaps to check supply voltages (+5, +12V) inside...

Tried with another TV, which is known to be working with my SVI 328, both composite and modulator. Still the same results, just plain blue screen with no texts.

Where do I measure the supply voltages, right after the AC to DC converter? The Spectravideo PSU supplies 9 and 16 VAC.

Hmm... this in this case at least part of the VDP is working as well as CPU... maybe you could try to open it and gently press the VDP and VRAM chips...

One thing that you could try as well is to change backround color and see if anything changes in screen:

try for example to press <f1> ,0 <ret> or <f1>,8 <ret> (color ,0 or color ,8)

Will try to change color and give the chips a gentle nudge.

Ctrl-G makes a beep. Can't see any color changes though. Every once in a while there are vibrating horizontal lines here and there and I can almost see the cursor and text.

Only one of the chips was socketed, so pressing will not really help.

I'm trying to test the play command but I'm not sure which key gives me the " character. In Scandivavian keyboard it's above 2 but I'd probably need a Scandinavian module. The 328 manual shows " next to enter in UK layout.
