SRAM vs DRAM performance

I'm going to expand my CX5M by adding a slot 3 expander and set 64k at 3-0, then move the FG05 at 3-1
I'm doing this with the 64K RAM expansion I have, placing the cartridge inside case.

The cartridge itself has all the logic for refreshing the DRAM,
The alternative is to use two 32Kbytes SRAM modules instead of the cartridge, this will need just two TTLs for chip selection.
What about performance ? I know SRAM is considerably faster than DRAM, and being static I could 'save' data between boots by using a simple battery. Will I note any difference by using SRAM over DRAM ? Do you suggest it's a good idea to opt for SRAM or are there any drawbacks ?

There will be no difference in performance on MSX. SRAM is simpler to implement because no need to make a refreshing system and you avoid the possible stability issue with MSXs that have a Pause. (CX5M does not have a Pause)

pretty clear, thanks gdx

Why there is a possibility of stability issue with MSXs that have a pause button and use DRAM ?

Maybe because RAM refresh is (most of the times) controlled by the Z80 and interfering with its timing may cause problems.

Marcoexo: Could you be interested in a RAM expansion cart if it was cheap enough?

Thanks Pentarou but I've just acquired one 16k and one 64k. My next purchase will be a Mapper I think...

Marcoexo: It's a Mapper/SD card reader. Send me a PM if interested.

Hi, Pentarou how do I send you a PM ? your email is not listed and apparently there's no way to send you a message through msx.org
