Sunrise IDE CF installation

Time ago I bought a Sunrise IDE CF interface. Now finally I've a got a a Kingston 256Mb CF card.

As it has passed a lot of time since I configured a Sunrise IDE interface (the non-CF version) I don't remember well the steps to install it. My computer is a FS-A1GT. Could someone tell me those steps?

Simple erm , if you can install the CF you can install the normal and Combi
It is namely the same. After starting the fdisk program you press the buttons A,W,I
Then copy the dosfiles reboot eh voila !
Valid for fat 12.

Ok. But not so fast. To start the fdisk program I should run it from a floppy, right?
That floppy must be DOS2?
You also had to press a key to start from floppy, do you remember that key? (if not it boots directly from the CF card and I get a "Not enough memory" message...).

Acording to the sunrise website, pressing the 'del' key on boot up disables the drive letter assignment allowing you to boot from a floppy drive. Boot up with the disk supplied by sunrise, then run the IDEFDISK program, then follow the instructions given by 'sunrise' the MSX freak!

If you dont have the sunrise disk, you need a DOS2 bootdisk, and the IDEFDISK utility that can be downloaded from the sunrise website.

Yes, but the ide210.html is a very "general" file.

Sunrise should make a document with the detailed process/steps to install their IDE interfaces from zero.

The manual that was included with my sunrise cf interfase is a step by step instalation guide, so sunrise already made that document. I think the steps to install are:

* create a disk with msx-dos 2 and fdisk
* reset while holding [del] to boot from that disk (not sure if it is del btw)
* start fdisk
* automatically create partitions (option in fdisk)
* reset
* copy msx-dos 2 to a:
* reset
* done!

You are right. I found the sheet that came with the CF interface with that instructions.

One more question: what version of COMMAND2.COM and MSXDOS2.SYS should I use with a FS-A1GT? 2.30? 2.31?

The MSX-DOS2 that comes within the cartridge is 2.20. What about those files?
I know there's an unoffical "expanded" version of MSX-DOS2: ver. 2.41. Will all soft work OK with it?

The CF IDE cartridge will detect the internal MSX-DOS 2.31 and disable its own 2.20 kernel.

No, some soft will require more TPA memory, but generally most software should work.

I did got my Sun Rise IDE up and running, but only because I cheated in egg and chicken issues I wasn't able to solve:

1) booted MSXDOS 1.x floppy and updated firmware with latest version, reset MSX
2) booted with MSXDOS 2.x floppy, used idefdisk to partition, reset MSX

Now if I boot with IDE partitions enabled, I get drives A: and B:, which point to a partition on hard drive, no access to floppy. If I boot with INS pressed, I get floppy on A:, but no access to HDD partitions. I tried to use IDEPAR from floppy to map partition 0 to C:, but it doesn't work ("No IDE!")

I resolved the problem by re-fdisk-ing my CF card with just one 32 MB partition, and copying MSXDOS2 boot files and some apps on PC. It is not reccomended by SunRise, but only this allowed me to get IDE working for me.

Is there a way to have access to both floppy and hard drive partitions, like in big brother MS-DOS? I.e. A: and B: - reserved for floppies, C: - Z: - IDE device partitions?

If you boot with IDE, you should have floppy on C: (if you made 2 partitions). Copy MSXDOS2 from this floppy to drive A: (in basic) and reset...
